Northwestern University is seeking a temporary Part-time Operations Assistant for the Evanston campus.
Temporary Job Description:
The Operations Assistant provides essential daily support for mailroom operations at the Kellogg Global Hub. This customer-facing role is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of incoming and outgoing mail, managing deliveries, and providing operational backup for the broader Facilities team during peak business times
  • Receive deliveries from major carriers and University mail services.
  • Sort, meter, pick up, and deliver mail throughout the Kellogg Global Hub and other designated Kellogg buildings
  • Customer Support (5%): Advise mailroom customers on the most cost-effective shipping options, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of USPS, UPS, FedEx, and express mail rates and technologies
  • Reporting & Compliance (10%): Generate daily activity reports for all major carriers and assist in enforcing building delivery policies, ensuring proper tracking, documentation, and monitoring
  • Facilities Support (5%): Provide cross-functional, operational support for the Facilities team in areas such as the loading dock and front desk as needed
Qualifications Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Previous customer service experience (hospitality, retail, or restaurants) is preferred
  • Proficiency with Windows PCs, keyboarding, and Microsoft Suite, alongside the ability to learn mail machines and software
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 55 pounds and performing physical tasks including bending, carrying, climbing, pushing, standing, and walking
  • A valid driver's license is required, along with the successful completion of the Defensive Driving course offered by NU Risk Management
  • Professional appearance and demeanor, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
