The Assistant Department Manager - Convenience Store supports the Convenience Store Manager in the daily operation of the convenience store while helping ensure compliance with all Lynn's, Inc. & Affiliates policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. This position assists with merchandising, inventory control, customer service, employee training, fuel pricing awareness, and facility cleanliness to help maintain an efficient and profitable operation.


The Assistant Department Manager reports directly to the Convenience Store Manager and works closely with the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. This position provides leadership in the absence of the Convenience Store Manager and assists in supervising convenience store personnel.


Store Operations & Product Management
  • Assist with receiving, processing, pricing, stocking, and merchandising convenience store products. 
  • Help maintain appropriate inventory levels to meet customer demand while minimizing shrink and product loss. 
  • Assist with ordering merchandise and monitoring inventory to prevent out-of-stock conditions. 
  • Actively participate in daily store operations and perform all convenience store duties as needed. 
  • Help maintain attractive, fully stocked displays throughout the department. 
Fuel Pricing & Competitive Awareness
  • Assist with monitoring competitor merchandise and fuel pricing. 
  • Report competitive pricing trends to department and store leadership. 
  • Support implementation of approved gasoline pricing changes. 
Merchandising & Inventory Management
  • Assist with merchandising programs, promotional displays, and advertising initiatives. 
  • Ensure price changes, promotional items, and new products are accurately implemented. 
  • Help communicate product changes and promotions to store personnel. 
  • Assist with vendor deliveries, DSD products, and inventory accuracy. 
Leadership & Team Development
  • Assist with training and onboarding new convenience store employees. 
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and direction to department personnel. 
  • Promote a positive, productive, and customer-focused work environment. 
  • Serve as the department leader when the Convenience Store Manager is absent. 
  • Support company expectations regarding employee performance, accountability, and operational standards. 
Financial Performance
  • Assist in achieving department sales, labor, shrink, and expense goals. 
  • Help monitor inventory levels and identify opportunities to improve profitability. 
  • Support department initiatives that improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. 
Customer Service Excellence
  • Provide exceptional customer service and lead by example. 
  • Assist customers with purchases, fuel transactions, product questions, and resolving customer concerns. 
  • Ensure employees provide friendly, prompt, and knowledgeable service. 
Facility Maintenance & Safety
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe convenience store both inside and outside the facility. 
  • Assist with sanitation, equipment maintenance, and general housekeeping. 
  • Ensure compliance with company safety procedures and operational standards. 
  • Report maintenance concerns promptly to store leadership.

Requirements

  • Follow all company policies, procedures, and operational guidelines outlined in the Lynn's, Inc. & Affiliates Primary Policy Manual. 
  • Comply with all local, state, and federal laws regarding fuel operations, food safety, age-restricted product sales, and workplace safety. 
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information and business operations. 
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, vendors, employees, and management. 
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Convenience Store Manager, Store Manager, or Assistant Store Manager.
  • Retail, convenience store, grocery, or customer service experience preferred. 
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of merchandising, inventory control, and cash handling. 
  • Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Ability to prioritize work and operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older.
