Job description

This vacancy is for a GS - 1801 - 12, MARINE INVESTIGATOR located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR HOUSTON/GALVESTON INSPECTIONS DIVISION and SECTOR LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER and MARINE SAFETY UNIT VICKSBURG in HOUSTON, Texas, Millington, TN and Vicksburg, LA (respectively).
Pay will be determined by location:

Millington, TN $89,508 - $116,362
Vicksburg, LA $89,508 - $116,362
Houston, TX $103,225 - $134,195

Qualifications:

To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis.

  • Preparing investigative reports, briefing papers and technical analyses related to the findings of facts, conclusions and safety recommendations made related to marine casualty investigation
  • Analyzing casualty investigations or trends in casualty data to draft appropriate Safety Recommendations, Safety s, Letters of Concern, Issue Papers, and Memos
  • Investigating merchant mariner negligence, misconduct, incompetence, and dangerous drug use leading to appropriate remedial MMC suspension or revocation, including the preparation and presentation of the government's case before an Administrative Law Judge
  • Issuing subpoenas and complaints, negotiates Settlement Agreements, processes Voluntary Surrenders and Deposits and Administrative Clemency applications
