QUALIFICATIONS
Therapy Aide must possess:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in good standing with the State of North Dakota.
Active BLS certification.
Must have no disciplinary action in effect against certification.
Competed training in restorative therapy services or complete the training within 90 days of hire or promotion to the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Receives specific restorative therapy assignments from Physical Therapist, Physical Therapist Assistant, Occupational Therapist, or a discharging therapist. Performs duties as assigned.
Performs restorative therapy services in accordance with care plans and facility policies and procedures. These services may include activities related to range of motion, splint/brace assistance, bed mobility, transfers/walking, dressing/grooming, eating/swallowing, amputation/ prosthesis care, and communication.
Transports and prepares patients and residents for therapy treatments.
Obtains and sets up necessary treatment equipment.
Maintains adequate stock of supplies and equipment. Restocks and reorders equipment as needed.
Maintains the therapy department and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
Performs tasks to individual patients or residents or as part of small group classes.
Assists with tracking the condition of splints/braces of residents who require them. Reports lost or broken splints/braces, wheelchairs and ADL equipment to nurse and supervisor.
Completes flow sheets daily to indicate that the specified restorative therapy task was done. Documents the progress of each patient or resident as directed by supervisor.
Keeps nurse and supervisor informed of factors that interfere with being able to perform the work as assigned (i.e. patient or resident refusal, reassigned to nursing unit).
Reports changes in a patient?s or resident?s condition to the resident?s nurse and supervisor.
Schedules patients appropriately.
Be familiar with state and commercial insurance and authorize as needed.
Manager and close therapy charts under guidance of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy.
Follows facility policy related to readiness for health inspection surveys, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) surveys, and any other regulatory entity or requirement.
Uses proper lifting and body mechanics while delivering care to patients and residents.
Attends department and in-service meetings.
Performs all duties or tasks requested by the Therapy Director and/or CEO.

Treats all residents and patients with dignity and respect. Promotes and protects all residents? and patients? rights.
Establishes a culture of compliance by adhering to all facility policies and procedures. Complies with standards of business conduct, and state/federal regulations and guidelines.
Follows appropriate safety and hygiene measures at all times to protect residents, patients, and themselves.
Understands and demonstrates knowledge of infection control practices, Universal Precautions, OSHA Blood Borne Pathogen Standard, and follows compliance with established policies and procedures.
Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, including verbal, written, and electronic communications.
Reports noncompliance with policies, procedures, regulations, or breaches in confidentiality to appropriate personnel. Reports any retaliation or discrimination to HR or CEO.
Reports any allegations of abuse, neglect, misappropriation of property, exploitation, or mistreatment of residents to supervisor and/or administrator. Protects residents and patients from abuse and cooperates with all investigations.
Reports any occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals in accordance with facility policy.
Participates in all life safety and emergency drills and trainings. Fulfills responsibilities as assigned during implementation or activation of the facility?s emergency plan.
Reports work-related injuries and illnesses immediately to supervisor.
Follows established infection control policies and procedures.
As a condition of employment, completes all assigned training and skills competency.

Meets general health requirements according to facility policy, including medical and physical exams and checking immunity status to various infectious diseases.
Subject to exposure to infectious waste, diseases and/or conditions which include AIDS, Coronavirus, Hepatitis B, and Tuberculosis.
May be subject to falls, burns from equipment, and/or odors throughout the day; encounter reactions from dust, disinfectants, and other air contaminants.
May be subject to hostile or emotional residents, patients, family members, visitors or personnel.
Must possess basic computer skills, such as navigating electronic medical record systems.
