Job Purpose

Banquet Servers are responsible for exceeding guest expectations in food and beverage by providing the highest level of consistent professional service. Banquet Servers, with the support of additional staff (bartenders, host, food runners, culinary and management), will ensure proper set up of the station and work areas assigned and the smooth serving of food and beverage to all his/her guests. Banquet Servers will work with a teamwork mentality by offering support to all other colleagues in the restaurant.

Responsibilities

Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Work professionally and represent Wisconsin Bride magazine’s number 1 location for weddings in the State, at Madison’s only Luxury 4-diamond resort property!
  • Report for duty punctually, in full uniform according to appearance and grooming standards
  • Report to the management team before starting and ending shifts and attend all pre or post event meeting as required by management
  • Expediently communicate any challenges, guest complaints or requests to the Banquet Captain
  • Have complete knowledge of the events Restaurant’s food and beverage preparation
  • Ability to sell alcohol and food items
  • Able to interact with guests in a friendly/fast manner
  • Understanding of all cashiering procedures and the handling of all payment methods, Including the use of Micros (if applicable)
  • Maintain specific side-work and ensure the total cleanliness and smooth operation of the restaurant
  • Ability to clear, reset tables and/or restock or maintain stations and equipment including but not limited to, coffee machine, hot box, soda dispenser, bain-maries, beer taps and other related set ups
  • Check identification of guests to ensure guests are of legal age to consume alcoholic beverages. Refuse to serve beverages in a polite manner to guests who are not of legal age
  • All guests must be treated in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction. Always strive to exceed guests’ expectations
  • Promote and maintain a positive working relationship at all times with all the Colleagues of The Edgewater
  • Consistently offer professional, friendly and warm hospitality to all guests
  • Attend all required training sessions and be aware of any changes to menus, hotel and departmental policies and procedures, service standards as well as business trends and requirements
  • Ability to guide guest through menu, making suggestions and recommendations in the guests’ interest
  • Lead and guide the Server Assistants or temp employees (if applicable) ensuring efficient and effective teamwork
  • Communicate all service requirements to the respective team members in an efficient and effective way
  • Ensure work areas and stations are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Assist guests (internal and external) with any inquiries or requests in a pleasant, helpful manner
  • Actively participate in and follow all health and safety policies and procedures set out for The Edgewater
  • Familiar with various types of services- plated, buffet, working lunches, etc.
  • Promptly removes dishes as guests complete their mean during any meeting or function
  • Carrying out any miscellaneous duties and responsibilities as requested by management pertaining to total quality service delivered in The Edgewater
  • Read and understand all of Banquet Event Order details, including start time and beverage requirements.
  • Other Duties as assigned

  • Combined 2+ year's previous hotel and/or food and beverage service (Preferred) 

Conditions

This position operates in event spaces, and restaurant setting. This position requires evening/weekend work and some work outdoors. The noise level in the work environment can be loud. The employee may be exposed to hazards including, but are not limited to, cuts, slipping, tripping, falls and burns. Frequent hand washing is required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching. The position may require occasional lifting of products weighing up to 30 pounds.
