Job Description
DCS Asset Maintenance is seeking a dedicated and proactive Rest Area Groundskeeper to manage grounds maintenance, lawn care, and the planting of flowers and shrubs at designated rest areas. This role will report directly to the Facilities Manager.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Promote a strong safety culture by adhering to all safety policies and procedures while performing tasks.
  • Complete assigned grounds and maintenance tasks in a timely, organized manner.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of public areas, ensuring they are well-kept and free of debris.
  • Perform lawn care using various equipment, including tractors, zero-turn mowers, edgers, and blowers, to ensure lawn areas remain neat and tidy.
  • Pressure wash and perform exterior painting as needed in public areas.
  • Care for and maintain plants, flowers, and trees, including replanting when necessary.
  • Oversee and maintain herbicide-free butterfly gardens, ensuring they remain healthy and well-kept.
  • Maintain proper striping and paint for parking lots and roadways in rest areas, as outlined in the contract.
  • Handle minor repairs on grounds, facilities, and equipment when required.
  • Meet the inspection goals set for rest areas and grounds maintenance, as per the contract standards.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts for the rest area facilities.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision, using sound judgment to complete tasks.
  • Maintain a friendly, helpful, and approachable demeanor with the traveling public.
  • Follow all FDOT safety procedures, policies, and guidelines.
  • Ensure public safety and convenience at all times.
  • Report incidents such as vandalism, theft, accidents, and vehicles that exceed stay limits (refer to emergency call-out list).
  • Document and report any suspicious activity, concerns, or maintenance needs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure storage area.
  • Remove all trash and debris from grounds, parking lots, and walkways to maintain cleanliness.
  • Use hand and power tools as required to perform maintenance tasks.
  • Report any necessary repairs or issues that need attention.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures.
  • Foster positive working relationships with team members, customers, subcontractors, security, and suppliers.
  • Promote a customer service-oriented culture within the project team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:
  • A valid driver's license is required.
  • At least 1 year of experience in groundskeeping, maintenance, or operating related equipment.
  • Must have reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday- 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to communicate with managers via phone, text, or email.
  • Self-motivated, capable of working independently, and trustworthy.
  • Must adhere to the company's drug and alcohol policy.
