Job description

CSR - Intake Respiratory Specialist

Processes respiratory and medical supply orders by gathering necessary documentation ensuring the orders meet guidelines set by insurance. Obtains prior authorizations as needed, working with other departments, doctor's offices, and patients for a timely turnaround. This position is scheduled Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Greeting respiratory patients, customers, and visitors in a friendly and professional manner in-person and over the phone.
  • Work with internal and external customers to make sure insurance coverage guidelines are met.
  • Create and file orders to submit to Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies.
  • Assist in the smooth flow of paperwork and information within the office.
  • Request assignment of benefits, prescriptions, CMNs, letters of medical necessity and other required information. Follow up on the collection of required documentation.
  • Process prior authorization when needed. Based on insurance coverage criteria.
  • Coordinate the delivery, set up and pick up equipment, supplies and services.
  • Input and update client progress notes, including but limited to, doctor, diagnosis and insurance updates.
  • Regular and reliable attendance
  • Processing customer payments and credit card transactions.
  • Maintain the neat and clean appearance of the respiratory showroom and work area.
  • Assist in resolving patient and customer concerns and issues.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Health care or DME experience
  • 1-3 years billing and intake experience
  • General understanding of ICD-10 coding
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 or more years of office experience, Brightree experience a plus
  • Excellent customer service skills, ability to show empathy and compassion
  • Proficient working knowledge of MS Office Suite
  • Ability to understand insurance reimbursement implications of industry change.
  • Must be able to maintain patient/customer confidentiality as working with HIPAA and PHI information.
  • Ability to complete work through long periods of keyboarding at desk.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work individually and with a team to complete work in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills

Physical requirements & working conditions:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee must be able to operate specific equipment or tools and work with specific computer software.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
