Job description

Job Summary
Play Resource staff are responsible for facilitating scheduled program activities at assigned playgrounds.
Position Summary
  • Oversee the facilitation of scheduled programs and activities in accordance with sites activity calendars.
  • Assist Recreation Supervisor with program planning and activity lesson plans.
  • Ensure scheduled activities have all the necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outlined in the Part-Time Employee Manual. Enforce all Milwaukee Public Schools and Milwaukee Recreation policies and rules.
  • Understand and abide by all policies and procedures outline in the Playground Staff Manual.
  • Assist in ensuring a safe and friendly playground.
  • Execute emergency procedures and report all incidents/accidents immediately.
  • Complete all required paperwork/reports accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Able to meet the scheduling needs required for this position.
  • Access to reliable transportation.
  • Able to lift up to 40lbs continuously.

Preferred Experience
  • Previous work experience in a public setting with a diverse population.
  • Experience organizing and/or leading sports, arts & crafts, dance, and/or drama activities.
  • CPR/First Aid training/certification.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to effectively communicate with participants, parents, and staff.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships.
  • Excellent decision making skills and ability to carry out verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to participate interactively with a diverse group of youth in all playground activities.
  • Ability to work with groups of 20 or more youth at a time.

Working Environment
This environment includes walking, climbing, standing for long periods of time, and possible loud noises when exposed to activities in the gym or similar environment. Staff will be required to supervise groups of children and adults as well as assist in the accommodation of children and/or adults with disabilities (within parameters of provided training).
