Job Description

Provides non-clinical support to residents and the nursing team by assisting with housekeeping, meal service, dining support, resident engagement, and household operations that do not require licensure or certification. Serves as an additional team member to promote a clean, safe, welcoming environment while supporting efficient daily operations and enhancing the resident dining experience.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
  1. One year’s experience in working with older adults preferred.
  2. High school graduate or GED preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  1. Must be able to safely push wheelchairs long distances, up and down ramps
  2. Able to lift and carry up to fifteen pounds
  3. Ability to walk on uneven and varying surfaces, inside and outside
  4. Capable of sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs, reaching, turning, bending, stooping, crouching, and kneeling, reaching over the head, grasping with both hands, and fine manipulation.
  5. Able to work a flexible schedule that may include holidays, some evenings and weekends and periods of inclement weather.
  6. Exposure to the sights, sounds and smells typically found in a healthcare setting including dementia  services.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Becomes familiar with individual resident’s routines and schedules by checking appointment lists (Beauty Shop, Podiatry, Manicures, Physician), keeping up with the daily program calendar and developing meaningful relationships with the resident and team members.
  2. Escorts residents in need to appointments and activities. Residents in need may include being pushed in a wheelchair, reminders, walking beside with verbal cues.
  3. Answers call bells to determine need; provides non-direct care services not requiring licensure such as filling water pitchers, adjusting lighting, changing channels, placing blankets on or off a resident.
  4. Notify licensed or certified direct nursing team members  when their services are required.
  5. Cleans spills and corrects simple safety hazard based on established procedures and instruction.
  6. Assist wellness and lifestyles team members in conducting programs  
  7. Assist with meal setup, beverage service, table setting, serving meals, clearing tables, and dining room cleanup.
  8. Provide housekeeping support including common area cleaning, touch-up room cleaning, stocking supplies, laundry assistance, and trash removal.
  9. Support nursing team members by completing routine non-clinical household tasks.

  1. Knowledge of implementing the safe use of wheelchairs and walkers by residents
  2. Ability to be Compassionate and understanding in dealing with older adults.
  3. Ability to hear, read, speak, and comprehend information written and spoken in English.
  4. Able to prioritize and execute tasks as assigned accurately and efficiently.
  5. Able to exercise a high regard for confidentiality.
  6. Possesses a cheerful outlook with a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm and is friendly, polite, courteous, and helpful.
