What is a resident associate?

Resident Associates are professionals who typically work in residential facilities such as dormitories, assisted living communities, or rehabilitation centers. Their main responsibilities include supporting residents' daily needs, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment, and sometimes assisting with administrative tasks or organizing activities. They often serve as a point of contact between residents and facility management, helping to resolve issues and maintain community standards. This role requires strong interpersonal skills, empathy, and the ability to handle emergencies or conflicts when they arise.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a resident associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Resident Associate, you need a foundational understanding of resident care, safety protocols, and often a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with electronic documentation systems and basic first aid or CPR certification are commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, patience, and attention to detail help in building trust and effectively supporting residents' daily needs. These competencies are crucial for maintaining a safe, supportive environment and ensuring the well-being of residents in assisted living or care facilities.

What are some typical challenges resident associates face when supporting residents, and how can they effectively address them?

Resident Associates often encounter challenges such as managing diverse resident needs, handling conflicts, and maintaining clear communication with both residents and staff. Successfully addressing these issues involves active listening, practicing empathy, and staying organized to ensure all residents feel heard and supported. Collaborating closely with supervisors and other associates, as well as participating in ongoing training, can help Resident Associates navigate these situations effectively while fostering a positive living environment.

Job description

Description

Minneapolis, MN $24-$26/hour Full-Time Tuesday-Saturday ย
Final compensation is based on experience, skills, and qualifications.ย

People are your superpower.
You remember names, read a room, and know how to turn a frustrated resident into a loyal one. You plan events people actually show up to, follow through on every concern, and bring a warmth and professionalism to the community that residents notice and remember. If that sounds like you, we want to hear from you.ย

At Roundhouse, our mission is simple and serious: putting humanity into housing. Since 2008 we have grown into a developer and manager of diverse real estate across four states, with more than 10,000 multifamily units and over $2B in assets under management. We got here by building communities people are proud to call home and hiring people who genuinely care about the resident experience.ย

We are bringing on a Resident Experience Associate to help shape the resident experience across two of our downtown Minneapolis communities. This role is about creating connection and belonging and making sure residents feel seen, heard, and genuinely at home. From thoughtful communication and memorable events to everyday interactions and follow-through, you'll help turn a place people live into a community they feel part of.
What you'll own:
You are a visible presence in the community and a champion of the resident experience. You'll build relationships, create meaningful moments of connection, and help ensure residents feel known, valued, and informed. That means you:ย

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with residents through consistent, in-person engagement.ย ย
  • Get to know residents and what matters to them, bringing a personal and thoughtful approach to everyday interactions.ย
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for resident questions, concerns, and feedback, turning a complaint or conflict into a resolved, even delighted, outcome. ย
  • Create and execute a thoughtful calendar of resident experiences, events, and opportunities for connection, with approximately five impactful activations per month across the communities.ย
  • Play an active role in the Roundhouse transition, helping residents feel informed, supported, and excited about what's ahead.ย
  • Support clear, proactive, on-brand communication to residents across multiple channels.ย
  • Partner with the onsite and marketing teams to improve communication quality and consistency.ย
  • Gather resident feedback, identify trends and recurring concerns, and surface opportunities for improvement.ย
  • Support initiatives focused on improving overall satisfaction, retention, and community experience.ย
  • Maintain a visible, positive presence throughout the property.ย
  • Look for opportunities to proactively connect with residents and anticipate their needs rather than waiting for them to come to us.ย
  • Identify opportunities to create thoughtful moments that make the resident experience feel more personal and connected.ย
  • Uphold community standards and contribute to a clean, welcoming environment.ย
  • Navigate challenging or sensitive resident situations with professionalism, empathy, and sound judgment.ย

What you bring:ย

  • You are hospitality obsessed and constantly looking for ways to promote connection and engagement.ย
  • One to three years in specialized high-rise experience in leasing or property management, ideally within a high-density, luxury urban development. ย
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.ย
  • A high level of emotional intelligence and professionalism.ย
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.ย
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a solutions-oriented mindset.ย
  • The ability to stay composed and effective in high-pressure or sensitive situations.ย
  • A self-starter mentality: you take initiative and follow through.ย

What's in it for you:
This is full-time work with pay, benefits, and perks built around your well-being, your growth, and your sense of community.ย

Health and wellnessย

  • Medical coverage, including a zero-cost employee planย
  • Dental and vision coverageย
  • Mental wellness programย
  • Gym membership stipendย

Financial securityย

  • 401(k) with employer matchย
  • Company-paid life insuranceย
  • Short-term and long-term disability optionsย

Lifestyle and cultureย

  • Paid time off plus 9 company-paid holidaysย
  • Paid maternity and parental leaveย
  • Employee housing discountย
  • Alternative transportation allowanceย
  • Monthly coffee couponย
  • Perks at Work programย

Recognition and growthย

  • Professional development supportย
  • Peer recognition programย
  • Years of service awardsย
  • Infinite Possibilities programย

Ready to make a community feel like home?ย

If you're energized by people, naturally create connection, and believe the smallest interactions can shape how someone feels about where they live, we'd love to meet you.ย

Roundhouse is an equal-opportunity employer and welcomes candidates from all backgrounds and experiences to apply.ย
