Director, Reservoir & Production Engineering

Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent

Location: Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Travel Requirements: Occasional travel required to support pilot projects, field operations, and commercial development activities.

Reporting To: Vice President, Development

Position Summary

The Director, Reservoir & Production Engineering is responsible for leading the client's subsurface engineering team in the development and optimization of its resource assets. Reporting to the Vice President, Development, this role works closely with the Director, Geosciences to advance development planning, reservoir modelling, resource evaluation and reporting, and production strategies, including well design and artificial lift systems.

The position provides technical leadership across reservoir and production engineering disciplines while supporting ongoing pilot, demonstration, and commercial operations. The successful candidate will bring strong leadership capabilities, extensive subsurface engineering expertise, and a proven ability to build and lead high-performing technical teams.

Key ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Strategy
  • Lead the Reservoir & Production Engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to advance the client's development strategy and maximize asset value.
  • Provide technical direction and oversight for subsurface engineering activities.
  • Represent the client in technical forums, industry engagements, and regulatory discussions.
Reservoir Engineering
  • Lead type curve development, production forecasting, and economic evaluations to support resource and reserve assessments.
  • Direct the development, calibration, and continuous refinement of static and dynamic reservoir simulation models for resource evaluation and field development planning.
  • Oversee well test planning, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Support the advancement of field development plans through data-driven reservoir management practices.
Production Engineering
  • Lead the optimization of injection and production well designs, including artificial lift systems and production strategies.
  • Provide technical support for pilot, demonstration, and commercial operations.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance well performance, operational efficiency, and resource recovery.
Reporting & Risk Management
  • Oversee resource and reserve evaluations and collaborate with Qualified Persons on regulatory and technical reporting, including NI 43-101 requirements where applicable.
  • Develop and manage the annual subsurface budget, including expenditure tracking and variance reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements related to subsurface operations.
  • Identify and manage technical risks associated with development planning and operational activities.
Team Development & Mentorship
  • Recruit, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of engineering professionals.
  • Foster knowledge sharing, cross-functional collaboration, and ongoing professional development.
  • Manage and coordinate the work of external consultants, contractors, and subject matter experts.
  • Build organizational capability to support long-term growth and development objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in good standing with APEGA or eligible for registration.
  • Minimum 10 years of engineering experience within the upstream energy sector or related resource development industries.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams.
  • Strong technical expertise in subsurface engineering, including hands-on reservoir and production engineering experience.
  • Experience with unconventional reservoirs, waterflooding, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), and/or lithium brine resource development is considered an asset.
