Research Student Interns are typically students enrolled in academic programs gaining practical experience, while Research Assistants usually hold a degree and support ongoing research projects. Both roles are common in academic settings, but the intern position is more focused on learning and training, whereas the assistant role involves more independent research tasks.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a research student intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Research Student Intern, you generally need a solid academic background in your field of study, strong analytical skills, and familiarity with research methodologies. Competence with data analysis software (such as Excel, SPSS, or Python), literature search tools, and sometimes laboratory equipment is typically expected. Effective communication, attention to detail, and a proactive attitude are standout soft skills for this position. These abilities ensure that interns can contribute meaningfully to research projects, collaborate with teams, and develop valuable professional experience.

What is a research student intern?

Research Student Interns are students, typically at the undergraduate or graduate level, who participate in temporary research positions to gain hands-on experience in their field of study. They work under the supervision of experienced researchers or faculty members, assisting with experiments, data analysis, literature reviews, and other academic tasks. These internships provide valuable opportunities for students to develop technical skills, contribute to ongoing research projects, and explore potential career paths in academia or industry. The experience also helps them build professional networks and enhance their resumes for future opportunities.

What types of projects and responsibilities can a research student intern expect during their internship?

As a Research Student Intern, you'll typically assist with ongoing research projects by collecting and analyzing data, conducting literature reviews, and supporting the preparation of reports or presentations. You'll often work closely with experienced researchers and other interns, gaining hands-on experience in your field of study. The role may also involve attending lab meetings, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and presenting your findings. This exposure helps you develop both technical and communication skills, and can provide valuable insight into potential career paths in academia or industry.

Job description

Our campus stores serve as a vibrant hub of college life and learning. We believe in creating retail and learning experiences that engage students, support faculty, and build alumni loyalty.  Together, our teams and stores work to elevate lives through education.

2026–2027 Academic Year | Creighton University Bookstore

Are you creative, plugged into campus life, and excited about marketing, social media, and events? The Creighton University campus bookstore is looking for a driven undergraduate student to join our team as a Student CMO (Campus Marketing Officer – Marketing Intern) for the 2026–2027 academic year. This is a hands-on opportunity to build real-world marketing experience while helping shape the student experience on campus. From creating engaging social content to promoting bookstore events and student initiatives, you’ll play a key role in bringing the bookstore brand to life.

This role offers valuable experience in digital marketing, brand strategy, content creation, experiential marketing, and consumer engagement within a fast-paced retail environment.

  • Create engaging social media and digital content for platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn.
  • Help plan and execute student-focused marketing campaigns, promotions, and events.
  • Support experiential marketing efforts including author visits, bookstore activations, giveaways, and student programs.
  • Research marketing trends and help identify new ways to connect with students and grow engagement.
  • Collaborate with bookstore leadership and campus partners on creative campaigns and special projects.
  • Assist with marketing strategy development and brand-building initiatives.
  • Support additional marketing and promotional efforts as needed.

  • Current undergraduate student at Creighton University majoring in Marketing, Business, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong communication and storytelling skills with an eye for engaging content.
  • Passion for social media, branding, and campus engagement.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple projects.
  • Self-starter who works well independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools is a plus.
  • Previous marketing, retail, or campus involvement experience is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to commit for at least 6 months; full academic year preferred.

This is more than an internship — it’s a chance to build your portfolio, gain hands-on marketing experience, collaborate with campus leaders, and make a visible impact on student life at Creighton University.
