RESEARCH SCHOLAR
New York University Tandon School of Engineering
The Department of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a full time Research Scholar.
New York University (NYU) is one of the top private universities in the United States, and the Tandon School of Engineering, located in Brooklyn, NY, is deeply committed to excellence in teaching and learning. Tandon fosters student and faculty innovation and entrepreneurship that make a difference in the world.
Responsibilities
Candidates will be responsible for:
  • Python Programming: Write, test, and maintain Python scripts and modules to support robot control applications.
  • Hands on robotics: Plan and conduct experiments with real robot systems, log data, track data, visualize data.
  • ML Model Training: Use NYU's high performance computing (HPC) to train large models (4B parameters).
  • ML Model Inference: Deploy trained models for real robot experiments.
  • Robot Simulation: Train and deploy models within a simulated robot environment.
  • Exceptional communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Python and ML model training is required.

Salary range
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the minimum salary for this position is $48,000 to $62,500 per year, depending on the candidate's experience and qualification.
Expected start date and period of employment
Expected start date is June 18th , 2026. This position is expected to be for 2.5 months through August 31, 2026.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Masters in Mechanical Engineering or a degree in a related STEM field. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated background in robotics, vision language action models, behavior cloning techniques, underwater robot systems, and autonomous systems, as exemplified by a strong publication record.
