Bachelor's degree in appropriate area of specialization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Description:

The Research Technician will contribute to basic laboratory operations, including researching and evaluating new products, comparing and negotiating vendor prices, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, categorizing and storing sensitive scientific materials and instruments, mentoring students, assisting with scheduling lab meetings and preparing agendas, and coordinating equipment repairs. The technician will also collaborate with the ARC to ensure protocol compliance, manage procurement of lab supplies, and maintain a well-organized and clean lab environment.

  • Aids investigators or higher-level technicians with routine preliminary data analyses. Maintains research data in laboratory notebooks, inputs data into computer software (REDCap), writes summary reports, and presents findings to investigators using PowerPoint.
  • Collects and maintains data and/or specimens using basic and advanced laboratory techniques, including physiological and cellular experiments such as digital imaging fluorescence microscopy and in vivo hemodynamic measurements with ultrasound.
  • Organizes supplies, materials, and equipment; sets up equipment for laboratory experiments. Operates laboratory instruments including microscopes, fluorescent microscopes, centrifuges, analytical balances, cell incubators, and cell/tissue storage tanks. Performs minor equipment maintenance and coordinates major repairs as needed.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and materials according to appropriate standards. Ensures the laboratory area remains clean and well-organized. Assists in coordinating lab meetings, prepares agendas, and supports general operational and administrative tasks such as ordering supplies, rectifying orders and maintaining basic laboratory supplies.
  • Collaborates with the ARC to ensure protocol compliance.
  • Mentors students in the laboratory.
