Job Description
Lurie Children's is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow, or equivalently qualified scientist, to focus on quantitative genomic studies combining patient-derived and biobank data, with an emphasis on risk stratification in pediatric heart disease and other cardiovascular disorders. This job includes rigorous statistical, computational, and machine learning research in collaboration with an existing team of multidisciplinary researchers. Candidates should have an interest in the phenotype implications of genetic findings, including returning results to patients and families.
This role assists investigators and the study team in the implementation, coordination, and conduct of research activities throughout project lifecycle, inclusive of publication and dissemination of results. Adheres to the service values and principles as well as the principles of research ethics.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Design and implement research projects, obtain necessary ethics approvals, and create all standard operating procedures necessary for each project.
  • Collect, prepare, and analyze research data with minimal supervision. Keep detailed records and manuals on data definitions and analysis methods.
  • Tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation. Use graphics and statistical software to analyze and present data with minimal supervision.
  • Search pertinent scientific literature and draft/edit manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations required.
  • Assist in grant writing.
  • Present data in written and oral form at local and national meetings. Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Ph.D. or MD (or equivalent) in in genome sciences, biostatistics, computational biology, bioinformatics, machine learning, or related field, with a proven publication track record.
  • Experience analyzing data and interpreting findings. This job includes rigorous statistical, computational, and machine learning research in collaboration with an existing team of multidisciplinary researchers
  • Familiarity with large-scale, cloud-based data such as the NIH All of Us cohort, the UK Biobank, or similar datasets, and their programming environments (R/Python/Jupyter).
  • Interest in the phenotype implications of genetic findings, including returning results to patients and families.
  • 0-5 years relevant experience in a research environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to successfully interact with diverse stakeholders including clinicians, basic scientists, and translational researchers.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple ongoing projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

$49,920.00-$81,619.20 Salary
