What Your Job Will Be Like
Organization 6761 is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Research & Development (R&D) Systems Engineer to support one of our nation's key assets safely and securely transporting critical materials across the highways of the United States. In this role, you will have the opportunity to directly contribute to our national security by leading critical system qualification activities for the Mobile Guardian Transporter (MGT), the next generation of transport vehicles designed to ensure the safe, secure movement of vital materials. Your role in leading qualification activities for normal environments and system-level electromagnetic testing, and supporting other system-level electrical qualification activities will be essential to the success and safety of this mission-critical program.
We hope you will join us to contribute to this critical national security program and advance your career in an exciting, mission-driven environment.
In this role, you will be responsible for the following key activities:
  • Collaborate with System Qualification and System Engineering Leads to develop and execute qualification strategies aligned with program requirements.
  • Manage a comprehensive system-level electromagnetic test program addressing HERO (Hazards of Electromagnetic Radiation to Ordnance), shielding effectiveness, and near-strike lightning events, coordinating with Department of Defense/Department of War partners.
  • Lead the analysis and integration of qualification evidence for normal environmental conditions.
  • Develop and release documentation including test plans, test readiness reviews, test execution, data assessments, quick look reports, and test reports.
  • Review and support subsystem and component qualification efforts, including test plan development, execution oversight, and report generation.
  • Engage with a broad range of internal Sandia organizational partners, including Weapon Systems, test and analysis groups, and the Production Agency.
  • Prepare and present both technical and programmatic status updates to internal and external partners, including Sandia management and Federal Program management.
  • Collaborate closely with MGT design team leads and the ModSim lead to understand subsystem designs and modeling requirements, ensuring system-level tests align with qualification needs and providing test results to inform and validate ModSim activities.

This role involves a dynamic mix of system-level testing and qualification activities, with periodic travel required to support large-scale test events. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, this position requires onsite work.
Salary Range
$117,500 - $235,700
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
