Job description

About florrent

florrent is innovating to scale the next generation of high energy density supercapacitors. Our supercapacitors provide reliable power at every level of the grid at lower cost and reduced emissions compared to existing high-power solutions, all while embedding the valorization of agricultural waste streams into our products. florrent is growing our Massachusetts-based team, looking for scientists, engineers, and professionals passionate about solving hard problems and delivering innovative solutions to address the world’s growing power quality and decarbonization challenges.

About the Culture

At florrent, we are passionate about bringing the benefits of a decarbonized future to everyone. That passion drives everything we do, and how we do it. We are building a team propelled by ambitious goals, and committed to seeing them come to reality. To reach those goals, we need to stay connected to what motivates us, and always be real about the challenges ahead. If that sounds like you, let’s talk!

Some of this role’s responsibilities can be completed primarily remotely, but we highly encourage in-office engagement as much as possible.

Responsibilities

florrent is looking for a research and development intern with experience working in a lab setting and performing device assembly, testing, and optimization, to help us build and optimize the energy storage technology in our next-generation of supercapacitors. In this role, you will

  • Prepare florrent’s supercapacitor materials for testing within an industry-standard coin-cell format

  • Test coin-cells and analyze electrochemical data

  • Work in a small, interdisciplinary R&D team to run processes, experiments, and workflows that will help florrent quickly iterate towards commercialization of our first product

  • Gather data to allow R&D efforts to quickly converge on commercializable innovation

Qualifications

Don’t have all of the qualifications listed below? That’s okay, we still want to hear from you if you think there’s good alignment between you and florrent!

  • Pursuing a BS or MS, or a recent college graduate with concentrated studies in Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fields

  • Prior work/internship experience in a laboratory, or equivalent undergraduate research experience.

  • Hands-on experience with fundamental chemistry and analytical measurements are strongly preferred; electrochemical testing methods such as galvanostatic charge-discharge, cyclic voltammetry, and EIS are a plus.

  • Strong interest in working with materials for energy storage research

  • Excellent and proactive communication skills

  • Massachusetts-based, or attending a Massachusetts university to qualify for the MassCEC Clean Energy Internship Program
