The Research Associate 5 candidate for the Electrical and Computer Engineering department will manage, oversee, and design engineering simulations, experiments and/or tests and collect data to ensure data integrity/control. Conduct research to identify solutions for data-driven modeling, communications, and networking of distributed maritime operations undertaken by both surface and underwater marine vehicles. Provides direct management support in initiating and developing contacts with grant/contract agencies and sources and in developing funding sources.

60% Conduct research on modeling, communications, networking, and machine learning techniques for distributed maritime operations undertaken by both surface and underwater marine vehicles. Design algorithmic and software tools for decision making, communications, networking, and intelligent autonomous operations. Maintain currency of knowledge regarding relevant state-of-the-art technologies, equipment, systems, and machine learning methods.

35% Manage and supervise graduate students and coordinate research activities within the project task groups. Support the development of research proposals and oversee the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports associated with the task groups led under the project. Manage and coordinate project roles, research tasks, and technical deliverables.

5% Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, computer science, or robotics and 2 years of related experience as a research assistant in an area relevant to this position.

Degree Substitute: Ph.D in related field.

Preferred Qualifications

Ph.D in mechanical, electrical, or computer engineering, computer science, or robotics and 4 years of related experience.
