Faculty Trauma Assistant/Associate Professor Position

Our organization is seeking a dedicated Trauma Surgery Faculty member to become part of a dynamic, high-acuity Level I Trauma Center, recognized by both the ACS and the State of Arizona. This program collaborates closely with the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix (UA COM-P), providing faculty with a robust academic framework and opportunities for significant scholarly involvement.

Qualifications

• Completion of a Trauma Surgery fellowship
• Board Certified (BC) or Board Eligible (BE) in Surgical Critical Care
• Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure in Arizona
• Recent publications within the last three years
• Membership in a professional society
• Proven clinical, scholarly, and teaching capabilities
• Interest in leading research initiatives
• Collaborative professional demeanor

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in robotic surgery (training available)
• ATLS Instructor status (training available)
• Recognition for teaching or clinical excellence
• Background in clinical research or as a scientist

Work Schedule

Model: Shift-Based
FTE: 1.0 with flexibility
Compensation: Based on wRVU

Clinical Scope

This program focuses exclusively on adult patients and features a busy, expanding service line, which includes:

• Trauma Surgery & Acute Care Surgery
• Trauma Surgery ICU (TSICU)
• Outpatient Trauma Clinic
• Increasing Elective Surgery Volume

Key Responsibilities

• Provide emergency, trauma, and TSICU call coverage (backup call included in shift obligations)
• Participate in elective surgeries (mandatory)
• Instruct and teach ATLS
• Maintain a minimum of 50% attendance at Trauma Executive Committee meetings
• Mentor faculty, fellows, and residents
• Engage in active research publications and scholarly contributions to support program verification

• APEX Fellowship: On-site Program Director led by Dr. Petersen (details available upon request).
• Surgical Critical Care Fellowship: Two new fellows accepted each year.
• Dedicated Research Program: Structured infrastructure led by Dr. Douglas with a strong affiliation to UA COM-P.
• Protected Time: Available for discussion; the institution has a strong track record of securing academic time at UA.

Specialized Procedures (Highly Valued)

• Chest Wall Stabilization - Rib Plating
• Thoracic Surgery - VATS or Thoracotomy
• PEG Tube Placement
• Abdominal Wall Reconstruction - TAR, TAPP, TEPP, retrorectus, and mesh repair
• Skin Grafting
• Tracheostomy - Percutaneous or open/OR
• Cricothyroidotomy
