Position Summary

The Research Associate I, Histotechnologist, will report to the Senior Scientist, Biodistribution Lead, and will participate in the development, validation and execution of histological assays, including immunohistochemistry, RNAscope/BaseScope, routine histology stains in support of pre-clinical and clinical stage programs. This is an on-site lab-based position in Morrisville, NC and prior experience with tissue processing and immunohistochemistry is preferred. The ideal candidate would have knowledge of histology techniques. Candidates may also have opportunities to learn different techniques for protein, DNA and RNA assessment on tissue sections.

This position is based in RTP, North Carolina and will report to a Senior Scientist.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform manual and automated immunohistochemical staining

  • Perform manual and automated in situ hybridization (RNAscope/BaseScope) staining

  • Perform routine histological staining

  • Equipment maintenance

  • Maintain accurate records with Good Documentation Practices

  • Comply with established SOPs, established laboratory procedures and policies

  • Ensure lab areas are well organized, and supplies are available and safety protocols are followed

  • Perform routine histological procedures for FFPE and cryo samples to include tissue trimming, sample processing, embedding, and sectioning

  • High quality microscopy slide production for microscopic examination by a pathologist or investigator

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in biological sciences or related field

  • Basic Laboratory skills- Pipetting, reagent prep, lab documentation, and good laboratory practices

  • Basic histology experience, and cryo-sectioning/microtomy experience on cryostat/sliding microtome

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills

  • Experience in routine histology

  • Experience in histological and immunohistochemical staining

  • Experience in in situ hybridization

  • HT or HTL certification or willingness to obtain the certification within 1 year of employment

  • Excellent manual dexterity, attention to detail, and the willingness to work in a team-based deadline-driven atmosphere

  • Ability to multitask among multiple projects and teams and work independently in a fast-paced, highly interactive environment

  • Self-motivated, organized, capable of working independently and in a collaborative environment

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally

  • Good judgment and innovation to achieve a solution within standard procedures

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience with image analysis
