The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Associate 1, SOM to work in Miami, FL. The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
  • Participates in the publication of significant results.
  • Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
  • Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
  • Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
  • Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
  • Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
  • Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
  • Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Review and abstract clinical, neuropathological, and research data from medical records and source documents to support case classification and research activities.
  • Prepare neuropathology summaries, classification sheets, consensus review forms, and other case-related documentation for review by neuropathologists and clinical investigators.
  • Enter, maintain, and quality-control clinical, demographic, and neuropathological variables within UMBEB research databases, including SPSS, IBIS, and other data management systems.
  • Generate and provide research cohorts, datasets, and reports for UMBEB investigators in a timely manner.
  • Perform data verification, quality assurance, and database reconciliation activities to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across multiple databases.
  • Manage and maintain live donor records, including database updates, quality control reviews, donor correspondence, and engagement activities.
  • Digitize, organize, and maintain electronic research records and historical documentation to support future research initiatives and data accessibility.
  • Assist with the preparation of annual production, tissue distribution, regulatory, IRB, NIH, academic reports required for institutional and federal compliance.
  • Collaborate with investigators, neuropathologists, and research staff to support tissue banking operations, data requests, and research studies.
  • Participate in on-call activities as required to support Brain Endowment Bank operations.
  • Maintain compliance with institutional policies, confidentiality requirements, ethical standards, and all applicable regulatory and quality assurance guidelines.
  • Prepare quarterly and annual progress reports for the NIH contract

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
