The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Research Associate 3 in the Radiation Oncology Department at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in Miami.
SUMMARY
The Research Associate 3, SOM will assume responsibility for the design and performance of research focused on the development of novel experimental therapies for prostate cancer. This role entails collaborations with basic and clinical scientists within the University of Miami or elsewhere. A minimum of five years experience in a lab research associate or equivalent role with experience in the core skills below is required. A minimum 2 years of experience in prostate cancer research is highly desirable and will be strongly prioritized. Visa sponsorship will not be possible for this role.
This role involves the following:
  • High degree of competence in performing molecular, cell and animal biology procedures related to new and on-going prostate cancer projects in the lab
  • Coordination of acquisition and processing of patient samples from clinical colleagues
  • Ability to develop, adapt, and implement new laboratory procedures.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competence in statistical analysis
  • Assistance with ordering, purchasing, and maintenance of all required reagents and supplies for laboratory activities, and monitors and maintains inventory of supplies and stocks.
  • Assistance with the maintenance of institutional biosafety and animal care protocols, laboratory safety records, and standard operating procedures.
  • Strong collaborative and teamwork skills
  • Strong organizational skills in record keeping of experimental results and preparation of data for submission of manuscripts and for scientific presentations.
  • Familiarity with latest literature in the field and ability to research references to technical problems.
  • Ability to multitask efficiently and under time constraints/deadlines
  • Ability to work outside of regular work hours on occasion as needed
  • Adherence to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Minimum must have bachelor's degree in cancer biology, biochemistry, cell biology or related scientific field
Certification and Licensing:
Not Applicable
Experience:
Minimum 5 years experience with standard biochemistry, molecular and cell biology procedures is a requirement, and a minimum of 2 years experience in prostate cancer-specific projects is highly desirable.
Department specific functions
Must display a high level of knowledge and proficiency in the following:
  • Basic cancer biology
  • Mammalian cell culture, expansion, freezing and sterile experimental handling
  • Animal handling, colony maintenance, genotyping and cancer biology-related experimental procedures
  • DNA isolation, amplification, purification, restriction enzyme mapping and gel electrophoresis
  • Protein purification and immunoblotting
  • Small molecule testing in cell lines and viability-based assays
  • Viral transduction of constructs in cell lines
  • Statistical analysis
  • Excellent written scientific communication skills

Some experience with the following is desirable:
  • Flow cytometry
  • ELISA-based assays
  • Immunohistochemistry
  • RNA seq analysis
