The Botanic Gardens is hiring a Research Farm Specialist 2. More information can be found here:
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in research farming or in farm management; OR
Three years of experience in farming; OR
Twelve semester hours in an agricultural field.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
As a Research Farm Specialist 2, you will have the following job duties:
  • Assists with implementation of research and outreach projects including propagation and transplants, field preparation, planting, data collection, harvesting, postharvest storage, and educational programs. (50%)
  • Mixes and applies liquid and granular fungicides, insecticides and herbicides in accordance with Federal and State label directions and follows all rules and regulations set forth by the University, the state, and EPA. (15%)
  • Operates, maintains and makes adjustments to complex agricultural equipment and/or equipment that are vital to agronomic research, including planters, combines, spray rigs, and various makes and models of research equipment and tractors. (15%)
  • Assists with maintenance of trucks and ATVs, lawn mowers, and small equipment such as string trimmers and chain saws including oil changes, lubrication, cleaning, and blade sharpening. (15%)
  • Other duties as assigned. (5%)

Position-Specific Details:
  • Appointment Type: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.
  • Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, M-F, with the potential for some weekend work during harvest season and special events.
  • Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
  • Location: Botanic Gardens, Baton Rouge, La.
  • This position is not eligible for remote employment.
