Job description

Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The School of Biomedical and Chemical Engineering (SBCE) employs Non-Student Hourly Research Assistants to support faculty-led research, laboratory, computational, and technical activities.

Assignments are based on research project needs, available funding, individual qualifications and experience, and the requirements of the research group.

Required Job Qualifications
  • Education, training, or experience relevant to the assigned research activities.

  • Ability to follow established research protocols, procedures, and supervisor guidance.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to maintain accurate research records and documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a research team.

Preferred Job Qualifications
  • Relevant degree, coursework, or specialized technical training.

  • Previous laboratory, computational, technical, or research experience.

  • Experience with research methods, instrumentation, software, or data analysis relevant to the assigned project.

Essential Duties

Depending on the research assignment, duties may include:

  • Assist with laboratory, computational, analytical, or engineering research activities.

  • Conduct or support experiments and research procedures using established protocols.

  • Prepare samples, materials, equipment, or other resources for research activities.

  • Collect, organize, process, and analyze research data.

  • Operate research equipment, instrumentation, software, or computational tools as appropriate.

  • Maintain accurate research records, laboratory notebooks, databases, and project documentation.

  • Conduct literature searches and assist with organizing scientific or technical information.

  • Assist with testing, troubleshooting, and development of research methods or procedures.

  • Support general laboratory and research-group operations.

  • Follow applicable safety, research compliance, data management, and University procedures.

  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, students, and other members of the research team.

  • Perform other research-related duties as assigned by the supervising faculty member or Principal Investigator.
