Career Readiness Learning Objectives:
Communication: The student worker will conduct interviews as part of the research and clearly exchange information with interview subjects.
Critical Thinking: The student worker will identify and respond to needs based upon an understanding of situational context and logical analysis of relevant information. The student worker will collect and analyze data and present it to the supervisor.
Research Assistants are Academic Student Employees (ASEs) hired by faculty to assist in carrying out a particular research agenda. This position was created by a Faculty Research Award fund.

Key Responsibilities:
While a research assistant is expected to contribute in many ways to the research project, typical responsibilities include the following:
  • Conduct literature reviews
  • Writing research proposal
  • Prepare interview questions
  • Recruit interview subjects
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Maintain accurate records of interviews, safeguarding the confidentiality of subjects, as necessary
  • Developing transcripts of recorded interview
  • Summarize interviews
  • Manage and respond to project-related email
  • Attend project meetings
  • Prepare progress reports for the PI (Principal Investigator)
  • Prepare other articles, reports, and presentations
Required Qualifications
Minimum qualifications/requirements

  • Academic and/or work experience related to the field of research, as defined by the supervisor/lead researcher
  • Excellent Communication Skills
  • Graduate Student enrolled in Gannon University
  • Satisfactory academic progress, as defined by the supervisor
Preferred Qualifications

  • MPA student
  • Completed or enrolled in GMPA 799, or any other research methodology course
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Highly motivated to learn and improve research skills
  • Highly motivated to have publication in an academic journal
