Position Announcement
Utah Valley University is looking for a student researcher to assist in the data analysis of space-based telescope observations.
Summary of Responsibilities
Student researcher in the Department of Physics through funding from the NASA Space Telescope Science Institute. Will work with Professor Joe Jensen to analyze astronomical observations from the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes and related ground-based observations. About 10 hours per week during Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters with the possibility of extension beyond.
Pay Range:
$15.00 to $18.00/ hour depending on experience.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Must be a current UVU student.
  • Enrollment in the Department of Physics as a Physics major or minor.
  • Enrolled in or have completed at least one of PHYS 2220, ASTR 3050, or ASTR 4350.
  • Experience with astronomical imaging data analysis is not required but highly desireable.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
The following skills and abilities are necessary:
  • Proficiency with computer programming languages, including Python.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to manage time and adhere to project timelines.
  • Attend weekly team meetings.
  • Ability to write clearly for a variety of audiences.
