MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One (1) year experience managing a production server in a cloud computing environment such as Azure, Amazon AWS, Google Cloud or similar for an enterprise employer;

AND ONE OF THE FOLLOWING:

Bachelor's degree in the field of computer science, information sciences or a related field -AND- a minimum of ten (10) years' experience managing hypervisors, servers and SAN storage in an enterprise VMware environment -AND- obtain a MCSE, M365 EA Expert, Server+ or VCP-DCV certification within six (6) months of hiring as selected by the CIO;

-OR-

VMware Certified Professional Data Center Virtualization (VCP-DCV), certified in 2016 or later, -AND- four (4) years' experience managing hypervisors, servers and SAN storage in an enterprise VMware environment;

-OR-

Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), certified in 2016 or later -AND- five (5) years' experience managing hypervisors, servers and SAN storage in an enterprise VMware environment;

Microsoft Certified Enterprise Administrator Expert (M365 EA Expert), certified in 2016 or later -AND- five (5) years' experience managing hypervisors, servers and SAN storage in an enterprise VMware environment;

JOB SUMMARY: This is a high-impact, proactive role focused on optimizing and securing enterprise IT infrastructure while driving continuous improvement in system security, reliability and performance. The Systems Engineer will take ownership of designing, implementing and enhancing virtualization, server and storage solutions to ensure stability, high availability, consistency and efficiency across the organization. This position is ideal for an experienced professional who enjoys problem-solving complex systems, leading infrastructure projects and implementing automation to streamline operations. Responsibilities also include developing and implementing security best practices for systems, ensuring regulatory compliance and assisting in the planning and oversight of backup and disaster recovery strategies. The role also involves monitoring and fine-tuning enterprise systems, coordinating research and proof-of-concept testing for emerging technologies and collaborating with teams to drive long-term IT strategy. As a key player in infrastructure security and stability, the Systems Engineer will be expected to respond to critical system failures and cybersecurity incidents after hours, with call-back compensation for emergency support. This position operates under the direction of the Chief Information Officer or designated leadership.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS:

  • Architect, implement, test and troubleshoot enterprise hosts, servers and storage systems.
  • Deploy and maintain measures to protect system integrity, ensuring compliance with best practices and proactive threat mitigation.
  • Ensure that proper security practices are followed including periodic patching of software, updates to firmware and daily review of system logs.
  • Monitor the performance of managed systems to ensure proper performance and reliability.
  • Create and maintain documentation as it relates to configuration, processes, service records and security configuration.
  • Provide guidance and support to team members.
  • Design and implement automation of tools to streamline processes.
  • Assist Management in the development of business continuity and disaster recovery plans and maintain current knowledge of plan executables.
  • Respond to emergency outages in accordance with business continuity and disaster recovery plans.
  • Interact with vendors and contractors for projects and technical support.
  • Perform on-site analysis, diagnosis and resolution of complex system problems and recommend and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist in research on relevant technology products, services, protocols and standards to remain abreast of developments in the IT industry.
  • Attend training seminars, conferences and trade shows to broaden knowledge of current and future issues and technologies.
