Position Purpose: The Junior Corn Oil Trader will support the trading team in the purchase, execution, risk management, and sale of physical corn oil. This role is responsible for helping manage customer and supplier relationships, coordinating logistics and documentation, monitoring market conditions, and ensuring trades are executed in line with internal policies and risk parameters. The position requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who can develop sound commercial judgment while learning to identify opportunities and mitigate risks in a fast-paced commodity trading environment.


Primary duties include: 

  • Maintain regular contact with customers, suppliers, and logistics providers to support day-to-day trading activity.
  • Enter purchase and sale information into the system of record accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Prepare and maintain trade documentation, including contracts, confirmations, and supporting files, ensuring transactions comply with internal guidelines.
  • Coordinate transportation and delivery for physical corn oil movements and ensure freight and execution costs are captured appropriately.
  • Develop market knowledge through ongoing communication with counterparties and by monitoring relevant supply, demand, and pricing trends.
  • Support pricing, execution, and hedging activity as directed by senior traders, ensuring compliance with internal policies and exchange rules where applicable.
  • Research and verify counterparty information, including credit references and other onboarding documentation for new and existing clients.
  • Monitor positions, trade limits, and receivable exposure, escalating issues to trade control, risk, and management teams as needed.
  • Assist with daily profit and loss reconciliation and mark-to-market processes related to physical corn oil trades.
  • Contribute to process improvements, reporting enhancements, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Finance, Supply Chain, or a related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in commodity merchandising, trading, logistics, risk management, or agricultural markets.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Detail oriented with strong documentation and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, especially Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic understanding of commodity futures markets, hedging, and physical trade flows.
  • Exposure to agricultural processing byproducts, vegetable oils, feed ingredients, or biofuels markets.
  • Experience with Power BI, ERP systems, or trade capture platforms.
  • Working knowledge of data analysis tools such as Python or SQL.

Working Environment:

  • Maintain prompt and regular attendance.
  • Travel as needed for client meetings, plant visits, industry events, and other business activities.
  • Work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment requiring responsiveness to market conditions.

Hiring Salary Range $75,000 - $85,000. Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant, internal equity and alignment with market data.) Subject to business performance and recommendations of management, this role may be eligible to participate in an incentive compensation plan.
