Job description

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated individual to join our team as a Zoo Keeper. As a Zoo Keeper, you will play a vital role in the care, well-being, and enrichment of a diverse range of animal species, including reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock. You will be responsible for ensuring the animals' nutrition, health, and overall welfare, while also maintaining detailed records and providing proactive documentation. This position requires working outdoors in all climates and being available to work weekends and holidays as needed.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Animal Care: Feed and care for animals like reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock. Monitor their behavior and health, and give medications as needed. Keep animal enclosures clean.
  • Nutrition & Enrichment: Prepare and give animals the right food. Observe their eating habits and adjust if necessary. Create fun activities to keep them mentally and physically active.
  • Health Monitoring & Records: Perform regular health checks. Keep detailed records of their health, behavior, and enrichment. Report any issues to the management team. Help with veterinary tasks as needed.
  • Exhibit Maintenance: Ensure enclosures are clean and safe. Monitor environmental conditions like temperature and lighting. Help with building or fixing enclosures when needed.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the team to improve animal care. Help train new staff and work together to maintain a positive environment.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (relevant certifications or degrees in animal science or related field are a plus).
  • Prior experience working with reptiles, birds, kangaroos, primates, and livestock is essential.
  • Knowledge of species-specific care, behavior, and husbandry requirements.
  • Strong understanding of animal nutrition and the ability to prepare appropriate diets.
  • Experience with environmental enrichment techniques to promote animal well-being.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent observational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts.
  • Physically fit and able to lift heavy objects, work in confined spaces, and stand for extended periods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to interact with colleagues and management.
  • Passion for animal welfare and conservation.
