Job description

Duties Description New York State Senator Julia Salazar (Brooklyn/Queens) is seeking an organized, detail-oriented, proactive individual to fill the role of Operations Coordinator in her Albany Office. This is an exciting opportunity for a professional with a passion for public service to work with an elected official whose agenda is focused on expanding tenant protections and permanently affordable housing, enhancing equitable health care access and services, protecting reproductive rights, establishing fair tax policy, achieving climate justice, ensuring strong labor protections, and transforming the criminal legal system on behalf of safety, justice, and dignity, both inside prisons and in our communities. The position is in-person and full-time (35 hours per week).

The prospective start date is September 1, 2026, but could be sooner. The primary responsibilities include: Greet and direct visitors in person to the Albany Office Answer, screen, log, and route telephone calls to the Albany Office. This often involves two types of case work: o Speaking with constituents about legislation, access to governmental services, and meeting requests.

o Speaking with incarcerated individuals and their families, as relevant to Senator Salazar's role as the Chair of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee. Categorize, screen, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail and operate a variety of office equipment Participate in meetings with community organizations and advocacy groups seeking legislative or budgetary support Perform a range of operational support to the legislative and constituent services teams Minimum Qualifications Required Qualifications: Administrative support experience Ability to be in person in the Albany Office daily (This is not a hybrid/remote position) Commitment to work collaboratively and professionally with other legislative offices Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills Proficiency at Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and Google Docs Preferred Qualifications: Experience in government administration, scheduling, or operations Demonstrated knowledge of the political landscape in New York State and New York City Demonstrated knowledge of relevant organizations and interests Additional Comments What We Offer: Salary is $68,000-$72,000, commensurate with education and experience. This recruitment will remain open until filled.
