What is a rent job?

Rent jobs typically refer to positions within the rental industry, where employees help manage, lease, or maintain properties or items that are available for rent. This can include roles such as property managers, leasing agents, rental sales associates, and maintenance technicians. These professionals assist customers in securing rental agreements, ensure the upkeep of rental assets, and handle related administrative tasks. The goal is to provide a smooth rental experience for clients while maintaining the value of the rental property or equipment.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a rental property manager?

To thrive as a Rental Property Manager, you need knowledge of property management practices, real estate laws, and typically a relevant certification or real estate license. Familiarity with property management software, leasing platforms, and accounting systems is crucial for daily operations. Strong communication, organization, and conflict resolution skills help build positive relationships with tenants and address issues efficiently. These skills ensure smooth property operations, tenant satisfaction, and compliance with legal requirements.

What are common challenges faced by professionals in property rental management, and how can I prepare for them?

Professionals in property rental management often encounter challenges such as handling tenant disputes, staying compliant with local laws, and managing multiple property maintenance requests simultaneously. To prepare, it's helpful to develop strong communication and organizational skills, as well as keep up-to-date with relevant landlord-tenant regulations. Building positive relationships with tenants and vendors can also make it easier to resolve issues efficiently and maintain high occupancy rates.

What is the difference between Rent vs Leasing Agent?

Rent typically refers to the act of paying for the use of a property, often managed by landlords or property owners. A Leasing Agent, on the other hand, is a professional who helps tenants find rental properties, manages leasing agreements, and often works for real estate agencies or property management companies. While both are involved in the rental industry, Rent is a payment or process, whereas Leasing Agent is a job role focused on facilitating rentals.

Job description

Senior Product Manager, Inventory & Operations

Brooklyn, NY (Rent the Runway HQ)

Senior Product Manager, Inventory & Operations

About Us:

Rent the Runway (RTR) is transforming the way we get dressed by pioneering the world’s first Closet in the Cloud. Founded in 2009, RTR has disrupted the $2.4 trillion fashion industry by inspiring women with a more joyful, sustainable and financially-savvy way to feel their best every day. As the ultimate destination for circular fashion, the brand now offers infinite points of access to its shared closet via a fully customizable subscription to fashion, one-time rental or ownership. RTR offers designer apparel and accessories from hundreds of brand partners and has built in-house proprietary technology and a one-of-a-kind reverse logistics operation. RTR has been named to CNBC’s “Disruptor 50” five times in ten years, and has been placed on Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies list multiple times.

About the Team:

The RTR Product team is customer-obsessed, data-driven, experimental, and iterative. We're energised by defining new behavior in the rental and resale ecosystems and are constantly looking for new ways to delight our customers and suppliers. We believe in and embody RTR's core values - including thinking of ourselves as founders, dreaming big, being scrappy, fostering debate and honest conversations, and bringing our authentic selves to work every day.

The Operations and Inventory Management teams work to deliver the customer mission by innovating through automation, process improvement, transportation methods, packaging and garment science, inventory management, and supplier relationships.

About the Job:

As a Senior Product Manager, you will lead a squad of engineers and cross-functional partners to manage the vision and roadmap for systems that power Rent the Runway’s supply chain and supplier network. This includes all aspects of the customer’s order fulfillment and return process; which covers inventory management, bookings, fulfillment, transportation, inventory care, and supplier management. You will partner with engineering, product design, business stakeholders, data science/analytics, and third-party vendors to implement innovative solutions that increase efficiency, drive scale, and improve operator, customer, and supplier experiences.

This is a full-time role based in our Dumbo office. RTR currently operates on a Hybrid model, with employees working from our office 4-days a week, and flexibly on Fridays. Regular weekly travel to our Secaucus, New Jersey fulfillment center is expected, along with occasional travel to operational facilities outside of the New York metropolitan area.

What You’ll Do:

  • Drive Product Strategy & Execution: Own the product vision, roadmap, and PRDs for RTR’s operational, supply chain, and inventory systems.
  • Power Internal and External Scale: Build and optimize internal systems (i.e., fulfillment, warehouse tech) while driving external expansion capabilities (i.e., supplier integrations).
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate closely with Operations, Transportation, Inventory, Buying, Engineering, Analytics, and Finance, to navigate trade-offs, manage competing priorities, and align on high-impact solutions.
  • Ship High-Impact Improvements: Deliver measurable operational gains, whether increasing warehouse throughput, optimizing inventory accuracy or ROI, reducing cycle times, or expanding supplier channel capacity.
  • Rapid Prototyping & AI: Leverage AI tools, Figma, and modern workflows to quickly prototype, validate concepts, and de-risk solutions.
  • Data-Driven Iteration: Define success metrics, monitor post-launch performance, and maintain a tight feedback loop to continually inform product iterations.

About You:

  • Experience: You hold a Bachelor’s Degree with 5+ years of Product Management experience, with a strong track record of shipping complex products. Direct experience in e-commerce, fulfillment, inventory management, reverse logistics, transportation, and/or other related supply chain domains is strongly preferred.
  • Systems & Operational Thinker: You excel at breaking down messy, high-complexity systems and problems into clear, actionable product requirements. You are equally comfortable at the 10,000-foot strategic level and down in the weeds of warehouse workflows.
  • Technical Fluency: You speak fluent "tech and ops." You are comfortable with APIs, system architecture discussions, and SQL. You can clearly translate business constraints for engineers and technical trade-offs for business stakeholders.
  • Adaptable & Scrappy: You thrive in fast-paced, evolving environments. You enjoy tackling a diverse range of projects and know how to ruthlessly prioritize, test, and iterate for maximum ROI.
  • Data-Informed: You use quantitative metrics and qualitative operational feedback to build compelling business cases, validate hypotheses, and turn data into actionable insights. You are passionate about knowing your customer(s) and empathizing with their pain points.
  • Strong Communicator & Leader: You inspire trust, build consensus across matrixed teams, and keep squad members motivated, organized, and accountable.

At Rent the Runway, we’re committed to the wellbeing of our employees, and aim to create a workplace that fosters both personal and professional growth. Our inclusive benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Paid Time Off, including vacation, paid bereavement, and family sick leave - every employee needs time to take care of themselves and their family.
  • Comprehensive health, vision, dental, FSA and dependent care from day 1 of employment - Your health comes first, and we’ve got you covered.
  • 401(k) match - an investment in your future.
  • Exclusive employee subscription and rental discounts - to ensure you experience the magic of renting the runway (and give us valued feedback!).
  • Universal Paid Parental Leave for both parents + flexible return to work program - because we know your newest family member(s) deserve your undivided attention.
  • Paid Sabbatical after 5 years of continuous service - Unplug, recharge, and have some fun!
  • Company-wide events and outings - our team spirit is no joke - we know how to have fun!
  • Office-centric work - our corporate employees and technical leaders have the option to work remotely on Fridays, in accordance with Company policies.

In accordance with applicable law, we prohibit discrimination against any applicant or employee based on any legally-recognized basis, including, but not limited to: race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy, lactation, childbirth or related medical conditions), sexual orientation, gender identity, age (40 and over), national origin or ancestry, citizenship status, physical or mental disability, genetic information (including testing and characteristics), veteran status, uniformed service member status or any other status protected by federal, state or local law.
