Job Summary

Our client is seeking an experienced Transmission Line Engineer to join its growing Transmission Engineering team in Spring Branch, Texas. This position offers the opportunity to work on challenging High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) overhead and underground transmission line projects, while also supporting the expanding renewable energy sector.

The successful candidate will lead and support the engineering and design of transmission infrastructure projects ranging from 4kV to 500kV overhead transmission lines and 69kV to 230kV underground transmission systems. Responsibilities include detailed engineering design, project coordination, cost estimating, construction documentation, client interaction, and technical leadership throughout the project lifecycle.

This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a collaborative consulting environment, possesses strong technical expertise with industry-standard transmission line software, and enjoys delivering innovative power delivery solutions for utilities, renewable energy developers, and industrial clients.

Key Responsibilities

Transmission Line Engineering

  • Perform detailed engineering and design of overhead transmission lines ranging from 4kV to 500kV.

  • Design underground transmission systems ranging from 69kV to 230kV.

  • Develop transmission line routing, structure spotting, conductor selection, and line optimization.

  • Perform line loading, clearance, sag, tension, and structural analysis.

  • Prepare transmission line profiles, plan and profile drawings, and engineering calculations.

  • Design transmission structures including steel poles, lattice towers, wood poles, and concrete structures.

  • Coordinate foundation design requirements with geotechnical and structural engineering teams.

  • Support renewable energy interconnection and transmission infrastructure projects.

  • Ensure designs comply with utility standards, client requirements, and applicable engineering codes.

Engineering Design & Documentation

  • Prepare complete engineering drawing packages and construction documents.

  • Develop material specifications, construction specifications, and bid packages.

  • Prepare Bills of Materials (BOMs) and equipment lists.

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates and Opinions of Probable Cost (OPC).

  • Develop scopes of work for construction contracts and procurement activities.

  • Review vendor drawings and contractor submittals.

  • Support engineering design reviews and quality assurance processes.

Project Management & Coordination

  • Serve as Project Engineer or Project Manager on assigned transmission projects.

  • Coordinate project activities with clients, contractors, utilities, and permitting agencies.

  • Lead multidisciplinary coordination among civil, structural, electrical, environmental, and geotechnical teams.

  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

  • Monitor project progress to ensure schedules and deliverables are achieved.

  • Attend client meetings, design reviews, and construction coordination meetings.

  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies.

Technical Leadership

  • Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and designers.

  • Review engineering calculations, drawings, and technical documentation.

  • Maintain awareness of evolving transmission technologies, utility standards, and industry best practices.

  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and engineering process enhancements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.

  • Minimum 5 years of post-graduate transmission line design experience.

  • Experience designing High Voltage (HV) and Extra High Voltage (EHV) transmission lines.

  • Strong understanding of overhead and underground transmission systems.

  • Experience working on utility transmission projects.

  • Ability to independently manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.

  • Excellent technical writing, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative engineering environment.

  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record (required).

  • Ability to routinely lift up to 30 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Texas (preferred).

  • Experience supporting renewable energy transmission projects.

  • Experience serving as Project Engineer or Project Manager.

  • Familiarity with transmission permitting processes.

  • Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams.

  • Knowledge of utility construction practices and field engineering.
