Job description

Recurrent is a digital media company whose content from trusted brands aims to foster generations of passionate audiences across enthusiast verticals. Recurrent is focused on optimizing and growing trusted digital media brands and inform more than 70 million unique visitors each month. Headquartered in Miami, Recurrent believes in a virtual-first approach to the workplace and has employees all over the United States.
Task & Purpose is looking for a video editor to help produce military, defense, and national security videos for one of the largest military-focused YouTube channels in the U.S.
We need an editor who can take a script, interview, or field shoot and turn it into a clear, sharp, well-paced video that retains viewers and builds loyalty.
Our videos cover military technology, tactics, procurement, defense policy, current conflicts, and the very weird world of Pentagon decision-making. The tone is informed, conversational, skeptical, and occasionally irreverent. We explain complicated military topics to a broad audience without dumbing them down or talking down to them.
Responsibilities / Qualifications
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Adobe Premiere, Photoshop & After Effects.
  • Ideation and implementation of animations and graphics (maps, charts, diagrams, etc) from script with minimal to no direction needed.
  • Gathering of appropriate and accurate b-roll video and imagery from all sources, ensuring proper usage rights and alignment with factual script elements.
  • Familiarity with military equipment and platforms.
  • Ability to edit two 16-to-20-minute videos and four 10-minute videos every month, reserving 1-2 days to implement notes from the team.
  • Deep understanding of best practices for pacing, music, and video structure.
  • Solid understanding of YouTube delivery elements (chaptering, thumbnail, format, trends, etc).
  • 3-6 years of experience in editing & motion graphics (experience on YouTube preferred)

In short, a qualified candidate will have the skills necessary to produce videos in this format and of this quality (b-roll acquisition & vetting, picture edit, motion graphics and animation, music edit, sound design and mix, color, etc):
  • Example 1
  • Example 2
  • Example 3

The ideal editor does not need to be a veteran or a defense expert, but they must be curious, reliable, have sound judgment, and a passion for making complicated issues understandable.
