Position Title: Senior Software Systems Engineer

Trident's Integrated C4ISR Systems (ICS) specializes in products and services which improve the safety and survivability of our armed forces. We develop solutions for a wide range of demanding missions and environments, including tactical communications systems for multi-national interoperability, autonomous predictive maintenance and logistics solutions, and scalable, responsive, all-domain surveillance systems. Trident's integrated systems support the protection of the National Capital Region and various military installations both domestic and abroad. We can deliver innovative, high-performance solutions that meet our customers' evolving requirements by integrating our specialized knowledge in electronic systems with appropriately scaled development methodologies.

Position Summary

The Software Systems Engineer will support the architecture, modeling, and documentation of complex, cloud-enabled C4ISR and data-driven systems. This role bridges systems engineering and software engineering, ensuring that system requirements, architecture intent, and implementation remain aligned as products evolve. The Senior Software Systems Engineer will apply model-based systems engineering (MBSE) practices using SysML and Cameo, while also maintaining clear and actionable technical documentation in wiki-based and diagram-based formats. The role requires close collaboration with software developers, DevOps engineers, product managers, and program leadership.

This role will directly support one of Trident's key programs to ensure the development and documentation is accurate and maintained at a high level as well as participate in engineering, requirements, and architecture discussions for future capabilities

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain SysML models in Cameo Systems Modeler representing system structure, interfaces, behaviors, and data flows.
  • Support definition of system boundaries, external interfaces, and integration points across software, hardware, and network components.
  • Maintain traceability from stakeholder requirements through architectural elements.
  • Assist with trade studies, interface definitions, and design reviews.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation in wiki platforms (e.g., Confluence or similar)
  • Develop and update diagrams outside of Cameo, including architecture views, sequence diagrams, deployment diagrams, and C4-style representations
  • Ensure documentation is clear, organized, and usable for engineering, program management, and customer stakeholders
  • Maintain consistency between formal models, diagrams, and written documentation
  • Participate in engineering design discussions and technical interchange meetings
  • Support requirements clarification and change management processes
  • Interface with program managers and technical leads to communicate system impacts of proposed changes
  • Identify gaps or inconsistencies in system definitions and recommend improvements
  • Support definition and maintenance of verification strategies to ensure system requirements are testable and traceable
  • Maintain traceability from requirements through architecture to verification methods (analysis, inspection, test, demonstration).
  • Collaborate with Government engineers to ensure system architecture supports testability and observability.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure architectural decisions support verification objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field
  • 6+ of related experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years with a Master's degree.
  • Experience working on software-intensive or distributed systems
  • Experience contributing to system or software architecture documentation
  • Hands-on experience with SysML modeling
  • Experience using Cameo Systems Modeler (MagicDraw)
  • Experience producing technical documentation in a wiki, Markdown, or structured documentation environment
  • Familiarity with modern software development practices
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a US government security clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD or government programs
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Familiarity with C4ISR systems, tactical communications, or data analytics platforms
  • Experience with diagramming tools such as draw.io, Lucidchart, or Visio
  • Exposure to DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, or containerized deployments
  • Familiarity with systems verification and validation (V&V) processes.
  • Experience working with requirements traceability matrices (RTMs) or verification matrices.
  • Exposure to requirements management or test management tools (e.g., Jama, DOORS, R4J).
