What is a remote web project manager?

A Remote Web Project Manager oversees web development projects while working from a remote location. They coordinate between clients, designers, developers, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Their responsibilities include project planning, task assignment, progress tracking, and risk management, all facilitated through digital communication tools. Remote Web Project Managers must be skilled in leadership, communication, and various project management methodologies to effectively lead distributed teams.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote web project manager?

To thrive as a Remote Web Project Manager, you need expertise in project management methodologies, web development processes, and a background in digital or IT project management—often supported by a bachelor's degree and certifications like PMP or Agile/Scrum. Outstanding communication, leadership, and time-management skills are essential to coordinate remote teams and manage client expectations. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope, and with clear stakeholder alignment in a distributed work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote web project managers, and how can they be effectively addressed?

Remote Web Project Managers often encounter challenges such as coordinating across different time zones, ensuring clear communication among distributed team members, and maintaining project momentum without in-person supervision. Job description

Senior Project Manager — Backbase
We are seeking a Senior Project Manager with deep expertise in leading Backbase digital banking platform initiatives for credit unions. This is a hybrid "Player-Coach" role that bridges the gap between Executive Strategy and Agile Execution.
Operating across Aequilibrium’s Four Lenses model (Strategy, Experience, Technology, and Delivery), you will be responsible for both the "What" (Product Vision & Requirements) and the "How" (Program Governance & Execution). This role is for a transformation leader who has led large-scale Backbase implementations within the credit union sector.
Who You Are
You are a rare talent who combines the analytical precision of a Senior Business Analyst with the strategic authority of a Project Manager. You understand:
  • The Ecosystem: Core banking integrations, middleware, digital platforms, and member-facing mobile/web workflows.
  • The Business: Credit union operating models, regulatory constraints (OSFI, BCFSA), and the unique "Member-First" philosophy.
  • The Future: You are an early adopter of AI collaboration tools to accelerate delivery, synthesize complex workstreams, and drive data-driven personalization in banking products.
  • The Leadership: You are a master negotiator, capable of resolving high-stakes conflicts between internal teams, external vendors, and CU executives (CIOs, COOs, CEOs).
Qualification Requirements Must-Have:
  • Experience: 10+ years of technology leadership in financial services, with at least 5 years specifically in Digital Banking.
  • CU Expertise: Direct experience working within Credit Unions or Community Banking environments is mandatory.
  • Platform Knowledge: Proven track record leading implementations on the Backbase digital platform.
  • Hybrid Skillset: Demonstrated ability to perform deep-dive Business Analysis (user stories, functional specs) while simultaneously managing high-level Program Governance.
  • Agile Mastery: Expert in Scrum/Kanban/SAFe and hybrid delivery models.
  • AI Proficiency: Active use of AI productivity tools (ChatGPT, Copilot, etc.) to enhance project documentation and delivery speed.
  • Communication: Exceptional executive-level communication and stakeholder facilitation skills.
  • Education: University degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Compensation
The salary range for this high-impact role is CAD $120,000 – $140,000 annually, depending on the depth of leadership experience and expertise in digital banking platforms.Location

AEQ is a fully remote organization. Candidates must be located in North, Central, or South America.
