How can I make $100,000 a year working from home?

A remote web developer can reach a $100,000 annual income by gaining advanced skills in popular programming languages, building a strong portfolio, and working with high-paying clients or companies. Freelance platforms, specialized job boards, and networking can help find well-compensated projects, while continuous learning and certifications in relevant technologies can increase earning potential.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Web Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Web Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and relevant frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms, and knowledge of responsive design tools are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, self-motivation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for remote work success. These skills ensure that developers can build robust web applications, collaborate efficiently across locations, and adapt to evolving project needs.

What are remote web developers?

Remote web developers are professionals who design, build, and maintain websites or web applications while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home or any place with internet access. They use programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and various frameworks to create user-friendly and responsive web experiences. Remote web developers collaborate with clients and team members virtually, utilizing tools for communication, project management, and version control. This job offers flexibility and the opportunity to work with clients or companies worldwide.

What Is the Job of a Remote Web Developer?

Remote web developers work in conjunction with a team to generate online traffic for their clients' products and services by creating eye-catching, efficient websites or web applications. Instead of working in the office, remote web developers complete their projects from home or another location outside of the office with internet connectivity. As a remote web developer, you utilize a client’s specifications to ensure that their website is easy to navigate and user-friendly. You use different programming and coding languages, including SOAP, REST, and other Web Services. You may create a database, an e-commerce website, or a content website, depending on the specifications of your client.

Is AI replacing web devs?

AI tools are increasingly automating certain web development tasks such as code generation and testing, but they do not fully replace web developers. Web developers still need skills in designing, customizing, and maintaining websites, as well as understanding user experience and security considerations. AI can enhance productivity but requires human oversight and expertise for complex projects.

Can a web developer work remotely?

Yes, remote web developers can work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection, as many companies offer remote positions that involve tasks like coding, testing, and collaboration using tools such as Git and project management software. Remote work allows flexibility in location and schedule, but often requires strong communication skills and self-discipline.

Increasing income may also involve specializing in high-demand technologies, expanding client networks, and working efficiently with tools like Git and project management software. Consistent high-quality work and effective self-marketing are essential for reaching this income level remotely.

How do remote web developers typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders on projects?

Remote web developers commonly use a mix of communication tools like Slack, Zoom, and project management platforms such as Jira or Trello to stay connected with their teams. Regular stand-up meetings, code reviews, and collaborative documentation are essential to ensure everyone is aligned and project milestones are met. Developers often work closely with designers, product managers, and QA testers, requiring strong written and verbal communication skills to clarify requirements, share progress, and resolve issues efficiently. Embracing asynchronous communication and being proactive in providing updates can help overcome the challenges of working across different time zones.

Job description

Simpson Strong-Tie is a leader in engineered structural connectors, software, and solutions for the building industry. We maintain a reputation as a trusted manufacturer, partner, and corporate citizen committed to our customers and employees.

Our founder, Barc Simpson established 9 Principles of Business we live out as company values and have made Simpson Strong-Tie an inspiring place to work since 1956. Our team of talented people are dedicated to our shared mission: to provide solutions that help people design and build safer, stronger structures.

Learn about our company culture directly from our team.

YOU

As the Web & eCommerce Project Manager, you’ll play a central role in bringing high‑impact digital initiatives to life across the company website and customer portal ecommerce platform. Sitting within the Digital Marketing & eBusiness team, you’ll partner closely with IT, development teams, agencies, system integrators, and cross‑functional stakeholders to turn ideas into well‑executed, high‑quality outcomes.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning the “how”; bringing structure, clarity, and momentum from intake through delivery. You’ll have broad visibility into our platforms, priorities, and stakeholders, and you’ll use that insight to help shape smarter decisions, stronger plans, and more predictable delivery. While you won’t own the product roadmap or investment decisions, your execution insight and structured analysis will directly inform prioritization, investment, and vendor decisions.

You’ll act as the business‑side execution owner, ensuring work is clearly defined, thoughtfully sequenced, and delivered with quality and accountability. The role includes light, product‑adjacent responsibilities—such as supporting business case development and upfront intake analysis—that help set initiatives up for success and contribute to the evolution of a more formal PRD and delivery process.

This is not a people‑management role. Instead, it’s an opportunity to work hands‑on with complex platforms, experienced partners, and motivated stakeholders—owning delivery, strengthening processes, and making a visible impact on how our digital ecosystem evolves.

If you’re energized by complex initiatives, cross‑functional collaboration, and being the person who helps teams move from idea to execution, this role offers both meaningful responsibility and room to grow.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING

Project & Delivery Management (30%)
  • Own end‑to‑end execution of web and ecommerce initiatives, from intake through delivery
  • Lead day‑to‑day project activities including planning, tracking, risk management, and stakeholder communication
  • Run daily standups and delivery rituals in a hybrid Scrum / waterfall environment
  • Ensure work is delivered on time, meets quality expectations, and supports platform stability
  • Identify risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs; escalate larger decisions to leadership when appropriate
  • Track project‑level budgets, forecasts, and actuals; monitor spend against plan and flag variances or risks
Backlog & Execution Ownership (20%)
  • Partner with stakeholders to prioritize and manage the business backlog
  • Translate business requirements into clear, actionable work for IT and development teams
  • Ensure IT Project Managers and development teams are executing to plan and aligned to priorities
  • Track progress, manage scope, and maintain delivery transparency
  • Support new initiative intake by developing lightweight business cases, including scope definition, high‑level effort estimates, dependencies, and expected benefits, in partnership with stakeholders
Stakeholder & Cross‑Functional Partnership (15%)
  • Serve as the primary execution partner for Digital Marketing, Sales, and Product stakeholders
  • Collaborate closely with IT development teams, IT Project Managers, and architects
  • Manage day‑to‑day coordination with agencies and system integrators
  • Facilitate alignment across business and technical teams
Vendor and Partner Management (15%)
  • Serve as the primary day‑to‑day operational owner for external vendors, agencies, and system integrators
  • Manage delivery coordination, priorities, timelines, and dependencies with vendors to ensure work aligns to agreed scope and business priorities
  • Monitor vendor performance against plans and surface risks or issues to leadership
  • Partner with Digital Marketing & eBusiness leadership on SOWs, RFPs, and contract discussions, while owning ongoing execution once agreements are in place
  • Own day‑to‑day invoice review, validation, and coordination with Finance to ensure accurate and timely processing
Platform & Technical Collaboration (10%)
  • Develop a strong working understanding of the web and ecommerce platforms to effectively partner with technical teams
  • Articulate technical concepts in business‑friendly terms and translate business needs into technical requirements
  • Support initiatives related to ecommerce functionality, CMS updates, MarTech integrations, analytics, and tagging
Process Improvement & Operational Excellence (10%)
  • Help refine and guide existing delivery and intake processes
  • Improve project visibility, predictability, and stakeholder satisfaction
  • Provide input and ideas related to product and platform improvements, while remaining execution‑focused
  • Contribute to the evolution of a more formal PRD and intake process by providing upfront analysis and execution‑focused inputs

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

If you can do everything listed above, you’ve got what it takes. Perhaps some of the following would be helpful too:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Information Systems, Business, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in project management for web, ecommerce, or digital platforms
  • Strong experience using Jira and Confluence
  • Experience working in hybrid Agile / waterfall delivery environments
  • Proven ability to partner with IT, development teams, vendors, and business stakeholders
  • Ability to understand technical concepts and translate requirements without being deeply technical
  • Experience managing agencies and system integrators
  • Excellent communication, organization, and stakeholder management skills
