What is a remote web content writer?

A Remote Web Content Writer is a professional who creates articles, blog posts, product descriptions, and other written materials specifically for websites while working from a location outside of a traditional office. They are responsible for crafting engaging, accurate, and SEO-friendly content that attracts visitors and supports the goals of businesses or organizations online. Remote Web Content Writers often collaborate with editors, marketers, and designers using digital communication tools, allowing them to perform their work from virtually anywhere with an internet connection.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote web content writer?

To thrive as a Remote Web Content Writer, you need excellent writing, research, and editing skills, typically supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) like WordPress, SEO best practices, and tools such as Grammarly or Google Analytics is often required. Strong time management, adaptability, and clear communication are essential soft skills for collaborating remotely and meeting deadlines. These capabilities ensure the production of high-quality, engaging, and optimized content that meets organizational goals and resonates with online audiences.

Remote Web Content Writers often work with team members across different time zones and departments, which can make real-time communication and feedback challenging. Writers must be proactive in clarifying project requirements, maintaining regular updates, and using collaborative tools like content management systems and messaging platforms. Establishing clear communication guidelines and scheduling periodic check-ins help ensure alignment and maintain productivity, even when working remotely.

Job description

Brafton is one of the world's leading content marketing firms, with offices in Boston, London, Toronto and Sydney. We aspire to continually raise the bar on what people consider "marketing content." We create result-focused strategies and content to drive SEO, social engagement and leads for our clients. Our teams continuously build expertise across new media formats, including video, blogs, infographics and web design.

This is a remote, full-time position open to candidates across Canada.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Brafton is looking for a full-time content writer with a background in travel. Writers who have traveled on cruise ships are especially encouraged to apply.

Brafton Content Writers are dedicated to producing strong, creative pieces that are integrated into clients' content marketing campaigns. Client experience is paramount for us, meaning you are expected to communicate directly with them. The majority of writing and editing will be focused on SEO-optimised blogs, and writers may also compose white papers, case studies, landing pages, email copy, infographic outlines and scripts.

The majority of the Travel Writer's allocation will be travel- and cruise-focused topics, but assignments may also include writing for our B2B clients. Those industries span technology, health, finance, business, education and marketing. Writing and researching confidently and on deadline is a must. If you are interested in joining a company at the forefront of innovation and creativity in the content marketing industry, please apply immediately.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Research, create and deliver high-quality content to clients according to specified deadlines

  • Edit the work of peers using Brafton's editing marks and processes

  • Work with account management to ensure that clients' goals are achieved

  • Virtually attend project, client and team meetings

  • Track writing and editing production work on a daily basis in our in-house project management system

  • Communicate directly with clients

  • Adhere to highly specific style guides and client preferences communicated through revisions, feedback calls, etc.

  • Interpret and apply SEO-provided requirements based on SERP, LLM and AIO analysis

SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Marketing or Communications strongly preferred

  • 1-3 years of professional writing experience, including travel writing experience

  • Extensive experience with travel, ideally including cruising.

  • Excellent writing and editing skills. Applicants who provide relevant writing clips strongly preferred

  • Extreme attention to detail

  • Knowledge of AP (Associated Press) style

  • Understanding of SEO keywords and concepts behind branded writing

  • Excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-oriented environment.

  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently, as well as a valuable member of a team

  • Creative mind regarding a client's brief/marketing goals

  • Strong phone presence for client phone calls and interviews

  • Ability to follow detailed briefs, apply client-specific style guidelines and work within established content templates

  • Ability to work with other departments in the company, such as account management, sales, social media, and other production departments, such as video and design.

This is a 100% remote working role. Your immediate supervisor would be based out of our Boston Office in the US; however, you'll be able to operate day-to-day in your local time zone. You must be set up to operate effectively from your own workspace and be comfortable with fully remote / home-based working. Brafton's core business has been heavily remote-focused since well before the COVID-19 pandemic; as such, the business is extremely agile and well-adapted to such working practices.
$48,000 - $56,000 a year
Pay range displayed in CAD.
Benefits Include: Commission, Health Savings Account, pension, paid vacation, flexible remote schedule, and more!
