What is a Remote Visual FoxPro developer?

A Remote Visual FoxPro Developer is a software professional who specializes in building, maintaining, and upgrading applications using Microsoft's Visual FoxPro programming language, often working from a remote location. Their responsibilities typically include database management, bug fixing, code optimization, and migrating legacy systems to newer platforms. They collaborate with clients or teams online, leveraging their expertise in Visual FoxPro to support business applications that rely on this technology. Since Visual FoxPro is a legacy language, these developers are particularly valuable for organizations with existing FoxPro applications that require ongoing support or modernization.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Visual FoxPro developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Visual Foxpro Developer, you need strong programming skills in Visual Foxpro, database management, and a solid background in software development principles, typically supported by a degree in computer science or related experience. Familiarity with legacy systems, version control tools like Git, and integration with SQL Server or other databases is often required. Excellent problem-solving, self-motivation, and communication skills are crucial for effective remote collaboration and troubleshooting. These skills ensure the ability to maintain, upgrade, and support critical legacy applications efficiently while working independently.

What are some common challenges faced by Remote Visual FoxPro developers, and how can they be addressed?

Remote Visual Foxpro Developers often encounter challenges related to legacy code maintenance and integration with newer technologies. Since Visual Foxpro is a discontinued product, documentation and community support can be limited, requiring strong problem-solving skills and resourcefulness. Effective communication with team members is essential, as remote environments can make collaboration more challenging, especially when clarifying requirements or coordinating code changes. To succeed, developers should proactively document their work, leverage online forums, and maintain clear communication channels with clients and colleagues.

PE Electrical Engineer

LRS Federal

Washington, DC • Remote

Job description

Electrical PE

Company: LRS Federal

Location: Corporate / Remote

Position Type: Full-Time, Senior Level

Position Overview

LRS Federal is seeking a high-caliber, licensed Electrical PE with an extensive background in federal and defense sectors to join our corporate engineering team. This is not a purely administrative role; we are looking for a senior technical expert who possesses 15+ years of experience and continues to actively perform physical electrical engineering design work.

The successful candidate will lead the design, analysis, and quality control of complex electrical infrastructure projects for the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Energy (DOE), and civil federal agencies (GSA, VA).

Mandatory Qualifications ("Must-Haves")

Candidates who do not meet all of the following criteria will not be considered:

  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical engineering (with the ability to obtain reciprocity in additional states as required).
  • Experience: Minimum of fifteen (15) years of progressive experience working explicitly on Federal and Department of Defense (DoD) infrastructure and facility projects.
  • Active Design Footprint: Proven track record of actually performing physical electrical design work within recent roles (producing calculations, single-line diagrams, layouts, and specifications; not just reviewing the work of junior staff).
  • Federal Standards Expertise: Deep, practical mastery of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA standards, and federal sustainable design mandates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Hands-on Electrical Design: Personally execute and oversee the production of comprehensive electrical design packages (Concept through 100% / Issued for Construction) for federal facilities, including medium-voltage distribution, interior power, lighting, grounding, lightning protection, and emergency/standby power systems.
  • Engineering Calculations: Perform and seal critical engineering calculations including short-circuit analysis, overcurrent protective device coordination, arc flash studies (using SKM or ETAP software), and voltage drop calculations.
  • Design-Build Support: Act as the lead corporate electrical technical authority on major Federal Design-Build (DB) and Design-Bid-Build (DBB) proposals and executed contracts.
  • Quality Assurance & Mentorship: Provide rigorous independent technical reviews (QA/QC) for multi-discipline federal design projects while mentoring mid-level and junior electrical designers.
  • Client Interfacing: Serve as the technical point of contact during design review conferences with DoD engineering components (e.g., USACE, NAVFAC) and civil agencies.

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Expert-level proficiency in electrical engineering design software (e.g., SKM PowerTools, ETAP, AGi32).
  • Advanced production capabilities in AutoCAD and Revit MEP for generating construction documents.
  • Thorough understanding of physical security, visual/auditory signaling, and telecommunications infrastructure integration within federal footprints.
  • Excellent written communication skills for authoring design narratives, basis-of-design (BOD) documents, and physical condition assessment reports.
