What is the difference between Remote Video Processing vs Remote Video Editing?

AspectRemote Video ProcessingRemote Video Editing
Primary FocusPreparing and optimizing raw video data, including encoding, transcoding, and quality enhancementAssembling, cutting, and arranging video clips to create a finished product

Remote Video Processing involves technical tasks like encoding and optimizing raw footage, while Remote Video Editing focuses on creatively assembling clips into a final product. Both roles require familiarity with video software, but they serve different stages of the video production process.

What is remote video processing?

Remote video processing refers to the handling, analysis, or transformation of video content using cloud-based or off-site computing resources, rather than on a local device. This process can include tasks like video encoding, transcoding, editing, filtering, or applying effects, all performed over the internet. It's commonly used by businesses and content creators to save on hardware costs, improve scalability, and enable collaboration from different locations. With remote video processing, users can access powerful tools and workflows without needing high-end computers locally.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Remote Video Processing, and why are they important?

Success in Remote Video Processing requires a solid understanding of video editing, encoding, and compression techniques, usually backed by experience with multimedia production or a related degree. Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, and video streaming platforms, as well as knowledge of codecs and cloud-based processing systems, is essential. Strong attention to detail, time management, and effective communication are crucial for collaborating with distributed teams and meeting project deadlines. These skills ensure high-quality video outputs, efficient workflows, and seamless coordination in a remote work environment.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote video processing roles, and how can they be managed?

One of the key challenges in remote video processing is ensuring smooth collaboration across distributed teams, particularly when working with large video files that require significant bandwidth and storage. Managing version control and maintaining consistent quality standards can also be difficult without in-person oversight. Many teams address these issues by using cloud-based platforms for file sharing, implementing clear communication protocols, and utilizing project management tools to track progress. Staying organized and proactive in communication helps remote video processing professionals deliver high-quality work efficiently.

Job description

Collier.Simon is an independent, full-service creative agency in the Los Angeles/Hollywood area. We work with our client partners to develop creative solutions that truly move the needle. Clients range from Fortune 500-type household names to up-and-comers across a variety of industries and verticals. We're in the midst of a tech-powered transformation - using AI to supercharge creativity, not replace it - and we're looking for people who are already exploring what's possible.
We're looking for a full-time Video Editor & Motion Designer with strong traditional craft who is actively experimenting with AI and emerging tools in their workflow. This is a hands-on creative role - you'll be editing and animating across a wide range of project types, with the majority of work being 16:9 for OTT and broadcast - and we want someone who is already thinking about how new tools and technology can make the work better and faster. You'll be a core member of the creative team, partnering daily with our Creative Director, Head of Production, art directors, and copywriters.
You Might Be a Fit If You...
  • Are equally comfortable editing long-form (:90) and short-form (:10) video and crafting polished motion graphics
  • Have a strong eye for design, typography, and layout - not just cutting
  • Can develop videos that communicate clearly whether sound is on or off - critical for OTT, PMAX, and other placements where audio may not play
  • Are already integrating AI tools into your video and motion workflow and can speak to what's working
  • Thrive in a collaborative team environment and can also execute independently with minimal oversight
  • Stay current on trends in video, motion, and AI-powered creative tools - and are actively testing new ones
  • Work well under pressure and know how to prioritize in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Are excited to grow with an agency and invest in long-term creative relationships with clients and teammates
What You'll Do
  • Edit video content across formats - with the majority of work being 16:9 for OTT and broadcast, plus sizzle reels, digital advertising assets, PMAX and other sound-on/sound-off placements, and occasional social and creator-style edits - from inception through final delivery
  • Design and produce motion graphics for broadcast, OTT, digital campaigns, and other channels, with an ability to craft work that communicates clearly whether audio is on or off
  • Ensure all deliverables are on-brand, strategically sound, and technically spec'd correctly
  • Collaborate closely with the Creative Director, Head of Production, art directors, and copywriters throughout the creative process
  • Present work-in-progress cuts and final assets to internal teams and clients as needed
  • Maintain organized project files and adhere to delivery standards
  • Bring AI tools and workflow thinking to the table - sharing what you're experimenting with and helping identify opportunities to work smarter across video and motion production
  • Contribute to building out and evolving our internal video and motion practices as the team and toolset grow
  • This is a fully remote role that requires impeccable communication and the ability to thrive in collaboration
Requirements
  • 3+ years of video editing and motion design experience in an agency, studio, or similar creative environment
  • Expertise in Adobe Premiere and After Effects - these are non-negotiable
  • Experience collaborating in Figma
  • Solid design fundamentals: typography, layout, composition, and motion principles
  • Experience producing assets across a range of formats, including OTT/broadcast spots, digital advertising (including PMAX and other sound-off environments), long-form content, and social video
  • Demonstrated ability to craft video that reads clearly both sound-on and sound-off (captions, kinetic type, visual storytelling, etc.)
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail throughout the production process
  • Actively experimenting with AI-powered tools for video and motion - whether AI-assisted editing, generative visuals, automated workflows, or other emerging tools - and able to speak to your experience with them
  • Available to work standard PST business hours
