Job Title: Survey CAD Tech II

Job Overview:
Our client is seeking a Survey CAD Technician / AutoCAD Drafter to join a collaborative team supporting oil and gas and related energy infrastructure projects through planning, design, and permitting. In this role, you will use AutoCAD and related tools to create exhibits, drawings, and datasets that support client planning, project development, and regulatory submittals.
This is a deadline-driven role that requires strong communication, dependable follow-through, and the ability to work independently while staying connected to the team. Candidates should be comfortable working during standard business hours generally aligned with Mountain Time, and during peak project periods, additional hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, may be required to support project deadlines.
This is a fully remote role within a small, collaborative team environment, offering no daily commute and exposure to a range of workflows, datasets, and adjacent disciplines, including surveying, remote sensing, GIS, civil engineering, and permitting.
Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Utilize AutoCAD to draft and QA/QC permitting and design exhibits, as well as review the work of others.
  • Prepare and edit survey drawings using AutoCAD (and Civil 3D when applicable).
  • Annotate survey data including bearings, distances, and coordinate information (lat/long, northing/easting).
  • Work within the PLSS (Public Land Survey System) to accurately depict land boundaries and survey elements.
  • Apply consistent standards for labeling, linework, and drawing clarity across all deliverables.
  • Utilize existing templates for exhibit creation.
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel to create spreadsheets and tables.
  • Edit GIS databases via AutoCAD FDO connection to update attributes and feature geometry.
  • Learn and apply rules, regulations, and client design specifications when drafting exhibits.
  • Edit and support written process documentation.
  • Track assigned work, budget, and timeline; communicate with the Coordinator to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Communicate with team members, Coordinator, and Production Manager on workload status.
  • Identify opportunities to improve drafting quality, consistency, and efficiency.

Required Skills & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 1+ year of work experience using AutoCAD.
  • Intermediate proficiency with AutoCAD (Civil 3D is a plus).
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Intermediate knowledge of oil and gas rules, regulations, equipment, and nomenclature.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment while staying engaged and connected with the team.
  • Ability to quickly learn new exhibits and workflows; adapts to changing priorities.
  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Team-oriented with a customer-focused mindset and the ability to work effectively with others.
  • Reliable, consistent, and relentlessly accountable.
  • Ability to respond in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
