Employer & Industry UsageCommon in large corporations, corporate offices, and executive teamsFound across various industries, often in mid-to-large companies

The Remote Vice President role focuses on strategic leadership and high-level decision making, often requiring extensive experience and executive credentials. In contrast, the Remote Director handles day-to-day operations and team management. Both roles are vital in organizational hierarchy but differ mainly in scope and responsibilities.

How does a remote vice president effectively lead and communicate with distributed teams?

As a Remote Vice President, leading geographically dispersed teams requires strong digital communication skills and a focus on building trust across virtual channels. You'll frequently use video conferencing, collaboration platforms, and clear documentation to set expectations and maintain alignment. Regular virtual check-ins, transparent goal-setting, and fostering an inclusive team culture are key to overcoming challenges like time zone differences and potential feelings of isolation. Establishing clear processes and leveraging technology ensures smooth collaboration and keeps all team members engaged, regardless of location.

What does a remote vice president do?

A Remote Vice President is an executive leader who oversees major departments or functions within a company while working from a remote location rather than an on-site office. Their responsibilities typically include setting strategic goals, managing teams or divisions, making high-level decisions, and ensuring organizational objectives are met. They communicate regularly with other executives, staff, and stakeholders using digital tools and platforms. The role requires strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to manage teams and operations virtually.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote vice president?

To thrive as a Remote Vice President, you need extensive leadership experience, strategic planning abilities, and a proven record in your industry, often supported by an advanced degree like an MBA. Familiarity with collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Zoom), project management platforms, and advanced analytics or CRM systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, decision-making, and remote team management skills distinguish standout candidates in this role. These competencies are crucial for driving organizational results, maintaining alignment, and fostering productivity in a virtual executive environment.

What does a remote vice president do?

A remote vice president (VP) handles all the responsibilities of a typical vice president role, except they work from home or otherwise remotely. This position can be found in various industries and is especially common in international and corporate companies. As a remote VP, you telecommute to oversee employee operations, review the budget, and address company activities. Your duties may vary depending on the organization, but most business matters make their way to you before reaching the president. You also provide leadership for teams and departments, make critical strategic decisions, and report essential details to the company president.

Job description

The Opportunity
We are hiring a Vice President of Sales / Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) to help lead the next chapter of growth at Ardent.
This is not a "manage from the sidelines" role.
We are looking for a driven, motivated, commercially minded builder with 8+ years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, supply chain, or international transportation.
Someone who understands this business.
Someone who knows how to sell.
Someone who gets excited about building teams, winning customers, mentoring people, and creating something meaningful.
This role is for a person who wants to make a real impact, not just collect a paycheck.
If you are entrepreneurial, competitive, relationship-driven, and energized by growth, this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Driving Revenue Growth
  • Lead Ardent's commercial growth strategy across ocean, air, customs brokerage, drayage, transload, and trade advisory services
  • Develop and execute sales strategies that drive profitable revenue growth
  • Personally help win and expand strategic accounts
  • Build relationships with importers, exporters, procurement leaders, and supply chain executives
  • Identify new markets, industries, and growth opportunities
Building a World-Class Commercial Team
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop high-performing sales talent
  • Create accountability, structure, and performance expectations
  • Improve pipeline management, forecasting, and sales discipline
  • Build a culture of ownership, responsiveness, and customer obsession
Partnering Across the Business
  • Work closely with operations and leadership to ensure seamless customer execution
  • Help bridge the gap between sales promises and operational excellence
  • Identify customer pain points and turn them into solutions
  • Be a leader inside the organization, not just externally
Helping Shape the Future of Ardent
  • Serve as a key voice in company strategy and growth planning
  • Help evolve our go-to-market strategy
  • Contribute to leadership discussions around hiring, service expansion, and long-term growth
  • Play a meaningful role in building something that lasts
What We're Looking For
You likely have:
  • 8+ years of experience in freight forwarding, logistics, transportation, supply chain, or a related industry
  • A proven track record of business development and revenue growth
  • Experience selling international logistics services (ocean, air, customs, drayage, etc.)
  • Strong leadership instincts and the ability to influence people
  • High emotional intelligence and excellent communication skills
  • A builder mentality and willingness to roll up your sleeves
  • A strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • The ability to move fast, solve problems, and adapt

Bonus points if you have:
  • Experience leading or scaling sales teams
  • Existing industry relationships
  • Experience working in entrepreneurial or high-growth environments
Who Will Thrive Here
You will probably love this role if:
  • You move fast and hate bureaucracy
  • You genuinely care about customers
  • You enjoy coaching and developing people
  • You are energized by growth and competition
  • You want to help build something meaningful
  • You believe details matter
  • You believe communication matters even more

At Ardent, every day is the Super Bowl.
What we do matters.
Our customers rely on us to help keep their businesses moving, and we take that responsibility seriously.
We believe in caring deeply, moving quickly, communicating constantly, and showing up for one another as One Team.
Compensation & Benefits
We offer a highly competitive compensation structure including:
  • Base salary
  • Aggressive performance incentives
  • Meaningful upside tied to company growth
  • Health benefits
  • PTO
  • Long-term leadership opportunity
A Note from the Founder
I'll be honest with you.
This role is not for everyone.
We are looking for someone hungry. Someone humble enough to learn, but confident enough to lead. Someone who wants to build, solve problems, and help shape the future of a growing company.
If you are looking for a place where your voice matters, where your effort makes a difference, and where you can help build something special, I'd love to talk.
