Remote Vacation Rental Interior Design focuses on creating inviting, functional spaces for short-term rental properties, often working directly with property owners. Remote Hotel Interior Designers specialize in designing hotel interiors to enhance guest experience, typically collaborating with hotel brands or hospitality firms. While both roles require interior design credentials and involve remote work, their target environments and client types differ significantly.

What is remote vacation rental interior design?

Remote vacation rental interior design is a service where professional designers help property owners furnish and decorate their rental spaces using online tools and communication. Instead of meeting in person, designers consult with clients virtually to understand their style preferences, budget, and goals. They create mood boards, floor plans, and shopping lists tailored to the property's needs, ensuring the space is appealing to potential guests. This approach saves time, is often more affordable, and allows for access to specialized designers regardless of location.

What are some common challenges faced by remote vacation rental interior designers, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge for remote vacation rental interior designers is ensuring that their design concepts are accurately translated into the physical space without being onsite. To overcome this, designers often rely on detailed digital mood boards, clear communication with local contractors, and the use of 3D renderings. Another challenge is sourcing furnishings and decor that are both stylish and durable for frequent guest use, which requires careful vendor selection and knowledge of hospitality-grade products. Building strong relationships with property owners and local teams is key to successfully managing installations and addressing any issues that arise during the project.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Vacation Rental Interior Designer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Vacation Rental Interior Designer, you need a strong background in interior design, space planning, and knowledge of hospitality trends, typically proven by a degree or certification in interior design. Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, and remote collaboration tools is essential for presenting concepts and managing projects from a distance. Creativity, strong communication, and adaptability are important soft skills for understanding client needs and delivering appealing, functional spaces remotely. These abilities ensure you can create inviting, marketable rentals that enhance guest experience and maximize occupancy for property owners.

Job description

We are assisting our client, Awayday, in their search for their Director/Senior Manager of Total Rewards. Awayday is a private-equity-backed, multi-brand operating platform partnering with founder-led hospitality and vacation rental businesses across the U.S. We operate in 12+ states, with 50+ brands and 1,500+ employees, and we're just getting started. Their growth engine is built on M&A, operational excellence, and one core belief: talent is a value-creation lever, not a support function.

About the Role: They're building the Total Rewards infrastructure to match their ambitions and need the right leader to build it. As the Director/Senior Manager of Total Rewards, you'll report directly to the VP of Talent and partner with the executive team and PE sponsors to design the compensation, benefits, and rewards programs that attract and retain the leaders who drive our business forward. This is a foundational, high-visibility role, not a keep-the-lights-on seat. You'll own strategy AND execution.

Responsibilities:

  • Enterprise-wide compensation architecture including pay bands, job leveling, FLSA standards
  • Management Incentive Plan (MIP) design, administration, and communication
  • Short- and long-term incentive programs (STI/LTI) tied to real performance outcomes
  • Benefits strategy with medical, dental, vision, 401(k), leave programs, open enrollment
  • People analytics with pay equity audits, retention modeling, board-ready reporting
  • M&A integration support, assessing acquired companies' total rewards programs

Required Skills:

  • 8+ years of progressive Total Rewards experience in compensation and benefits
  • Background in PE-backed, multi-site, or distributed service environments (hospitality, property management, field ops)
  • Hands-on experience with MIP, LTI, or executive compensation programs
  • Expert-level benchmarking skills (Radford, Mercer, WTW)
  • Strong HRIS fluency (Workday, ADP, UKG, Paycom)
  • A builder mentality, you create structure where there's ambiguity and own outcomes end-to-end

Preferred Skills:

  • CCP or CBP designation a plus

Pay range and compensation package:

  • Competitive base salary, negotiable based on your experience and market
  • Equity component, real ownership in a PE-backed platform positioned for significant growth
  • Annual performance bonus tied to individual and company outcomes
  • Comprehensive benefits: medical, dental, vision, 401(k)
  • Fully remote work from anywhere in the U.S., with travel as needed
  • The rare chance to build a Total Rewards function from the ground up at a high-growth company

This role is for you if you're energized by white space. You want a seat at the table and not just a voice in the room. You believe great compensation design is a competitive advantage. And you want to build something you're proud of. Apply now! We're moving quickly and would love to hear from you.
