Job description


The Wound and Ostomy Registered Nurse serves as a clinical resource for patients, families, nursing staff, and the interdisciplinary care team. This role provides specialized assessment, treatment, education, and support for patients with acute and chronic wounds, ostomies, continence disorders, skin breakdown, pressure injuries, and fistulas in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct wound, ostomy, and skin care services in inpatient and outpatient settings
  • Assess patients with stage 3 or greater pressure injuries
  • Evaluate patients who develop hospital-acquired pressure injuries and complete all required reporting
  • Develop and support treatment and prevention plans for wounds, skin breakdown, ostomies, continence disorders, and fistulas
  • Provide preoperative and postoperative education to patients and families regarding wound and ostomy care
  • Serve as a clinical resource for nursing staff and members of the interdisciplinary care team
  • Provide bedside education, staff training, and in-service programs related to wound, ostomy, and skin care
  • Assist with the evaluation and selection of wound care products, skin care products, supplies, and equipment
  • Review hospital practices and identify opportunities to reduce and prevent hospital-acquired pressure injuries
  • Stay current on evidence-based wound and skin care practices, treatments, assessments, and prevention strategies
  • Promote consistent clinical standards and continuous improvement across wound and ostomy services

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required
  • Current California Registered Nurse license in good standing required
  • Minimum of four years of clinical nursing experience required
  • Minimum of two years of wound and ostomy experience preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support certification required
  • Current Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse certification required
