Reports To: Project Manager IV

Job Type: Full-Time, Regular

Compensation: $97,500 - $121,900 per year, based on relevant experience

This position is based in the Midwest and offers flexibility to work remotely or from an Eocene office. Candidates must be located within the Midwest, and periodic travel to Eocene office locations is required.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Project Manager II is an experienced member of our growing Water Resource and Engineering Team. This position blends technical leadership, team development, and client strategy - with a seat at the table as we expand our regional footprint and service lines. This position will lead watershed planning and engineering design projects. It will also support client relations and help drive business development initiatives.

Project Management & Leadership

  • Manage and expand water resources projects - watershed planning, stream analysis and restoration, constructed wetlands, H&H modeling, green infrastructure, mitigation banking, and more

  • Mentor and support staff to promote technical development, collaboration and professional growth

  • Collaborate with leadership on workload forecasting, team development initiatives, and service area growth

  • Ensure successful project delivery - including managing schedule, budget, client communication, quality assurance, and technical direction

  • Provide mentorship to junior project managers, environmental scientists, and engineering technicians

  • Assist with identifying, recommending and providing training to staff

  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of professional and technical staff to complete complex environmental projects

  • Independently manage client relationships, budgets, schedules, and project resources

  • Track and manage project deliverables

  • Interact and coordinate with various clientele, including federal, state, local, and tribal agencies

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership

Business Development

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships, lead proposal efforts, and support strategic pursuits

  • Lead or support marketing and scoping project work, including development of fee estimates and strategic pursuits / high-level of effort proposals

  • Identify and pursue water resource-specific, design, engineering, and construction observation project opportunities

  • Identify, connect clients, write and pursue grant funding for water resource related projects.

  • Attend and present at industry events to promote project and staff expertise and increase exposure of Eocene's Environmental Division

  • Contact and meet with prospective and current clients, establish lines of communication for follow-up

  • Assist with participation and preparation of new business presentations

  • Review and recommend formal proposals in response to Requests for Proposals (RFP) and Requests for Qualifications (RFQ)

  • Attend regional and national conferences

  • Assist with new contract startups

Regional Management

  • Perform Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) visits with clients per the company procedure to ensure team is meeting client expectations

  • Meet and collaborate with other Eocene service lines

  • Ability to travel throughout designated territory and to Wright Service Corp. headquarters in West Des Moines, Iowa when required. The amount of travel required will depend upon the candidate's location

  • Conduct interviews and fill vacancies

  • Organize, monitor, and provide regular updates to supervisor on work processes

  • Ensure timesheets are submitted on time and accurately

  • Facilitate employee success and perform Employee Development Plan (EDP)

  • Set and complete strategic goals

  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance at work and meetings

  • Support, actively participate, and act in accordance with Wright's and Eocene Environmental Group's culture of safety and employee ownership

  • Comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations; maintain knowledge of and follow all company policies and procedures

  • Project Manager is expected to perform all other internal and external duties as required or assigned while maintaining a billability goal of 45%

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Professional Engineering License in Environmental or Civil Engineering

  • Four (4)-year degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field

  • A minimum of 10 years professional design experience in water resources, environmental, ecological engineering (or similar experience)

  • Demonstrate success leading complex, interdisciplinary projects and teams

  • Technical experience with including but not limited to H&H modeling, stream analysis, stream/wetland restoration, mitigation banking, permitting, watershed planning, and related areas

  • Experience with state/federal grant writing and developing project scopes and fees, particularly for public funding programs including watershed planning, green infrastructure, stream restoration, and water quantity and quality projects

  • A strategic growth-minded approach with strong written, verbal, and mentoring skills

  • Knowledge of applicable industry safety rules and regulations

  • Knowledge of relevant Federal, State, and Local regulations

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) record holder

  • Familiarity with typical water resource projects

  • Experience using or reviewing ArcGIS, HEC-RAS, and AutoDesk software, including Civil3D and AutoCAD work

  • A minimum of 10 years experience in the professional services industry

  • Previous managerial experience

  • Financial training, experience, and/or certifications

  • Project management training, experience, and/or certifications

  • Completion of Iowa DNR Level 1 and Level 2 Iowa River Restoration Toolbox training

  • Familiarity with Section 404 and floodplain permitting

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite products utilizing the latest operating system

  • Experience with Apple-based products

  • Demonstrates excellent customer service, focusing on rapport-building, listening, questioning, and patience

  • Hyper-responsive to internal staff, regulatory agencies, and clients

  • Effective communication skills, including:

    • Able to communicate with all levels of employees and clients, both technical and non-technical

    • Verbal, written, and presentation skills

  • Knowledge of public service and/or environmental professional services industry

  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate multiple projects successfully (within scope, use of effective project planning, issue/risk management, and producing a quality-assured deliverable on time and within budget)

  • Strong ability to manage resource allocations across multiple employees to meet company utilization and financial goals

  • Passionate and successful in mentoring others, supporting a team environment, and completing performance reviews
