Job description

About the Team

Uber is changing the world and the Uber Legal Team is proud to be a part of that. You will be part of a growing team working on cutting-edge issues and shaping the legal landscape in an exciting, fast-paced environment. This team sits within the broader Regulatory and Global Investigations team and covers regulatory matters for the Northeast region. The Regulatory team is at the forefront of navigating the complex, fast-moving legal and regulatory landscapes that shape the future of Uber's Mobility and Delivery business lines.

About the Role

We're looking for exceptional legal professionals to join our US Regulatory Legal Team, which provides legal advice and guidance on all aspects of Uber's Mobility and Delivery operations in the U.S. This is a rare opportunity for an attorney to join an innovative and exciting tech company, gain substantive, hands-on experience with business clients, and ensure that Uber can continue to scale safely, legally, and efficiently across our Northeastern markets.

What You'll Do
  • Advocate & Engage: Tackle exciting, novel legal issues before local and state agencies, including direct engagement and public advocacy on behalf of Uber through regulatory proceedings, public filings, workshops, and regulator meetings.
  • Manage Inquiries & Investigations: Formulate external replies and lead internal reviews or investigations in response to complex regulatory inquiries, data requests, and requests for information.
  • Legislative Analysis & Drafting: Analyze, draft, and negotiate legislation applicable to Uber's rides and delivery business on various topics including privacy, data sharing, and compliance oversight.
  • Provide High-Impact Counsel: Work hand in hand with business stakeholders by providing legal advice on high-impact, high-profile matters and product launches in a fast-paced environment.
  • Cross-Functional Strategy: Drive legal strategies with cross-functional partners-including Operations, Policy, Safety, Product, and Insurance teams-to develop creative, proactive legal solutions on first-of-its-kind issues and achieve ambitious operational goals.
  • Protect and Enable the Business: Actively resolve critical regulatory and operational issues central to the core health of both the Mobility and Delivery businesses, coordinating parallel regulatory and litigation strategies related to bet-the-company issues.
Basic Qualifications
  • 5+ years of regulatory, white collar, or litigation experience in private practice, in-house, and/or government.
  • Licensed to practice law in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Regulatory & Rulemaking Depth: Experience crafting strategies to achieve ambitious regulatory goals, and advocacy in rulemaking proceedings before federal or state regulatory bodies (e.g., NYC TLC, MA DPU, state DMVs).
  • Thrive in Ambiguity: Proven ability to provide direct advice on thorny matters, particularly in gray areas of the law. Because laws often lag behind tech innovation, you can confidently navigate undefined rules, operate effectively without explicit instructions, and forge a clear path forward.
  • Strategic Force Multiplier: A highly motivated professional with keen business judgment, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to seamlessly communicate across teams to execute complex compliance projects at a rapid pace.
  • Drive Operational Excellence: "Obsessive attention to detail" with superior organizational skills to shield the team from regulatory risk, manage cases, and ensure public submissions and filings are flawless with limited oversight.
  • Team Dynamics: Willingness to learn, act as a collaborative utility player, maintain a sense of humor, and be fun to work with! Excited about Uber and our mission.
