GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Senior Platform Engineer designs, implements, operates, and improves enterprise infrastructure across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. This role supports Windows Server, Active Directory, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, Azure core services, virtualization, storage, networking, and related platform services.
The Senior Platform Engineer defines complex infrastructure problems, develops practical solutions, and improves standards, configurations, and procedures to support reliable and secure business operations.
The role combines technical expertise, engineering judgment, and service ownership to improve platform reliability, observability, maintainability, and measurable service outcomes.
Salary range is $91,840.00 - $120,639.02/annually. Job Grade, EX 15B. Final salary is dependent on candidate's experience and qualifications.
Remote work is not available for candidates residing in, or planning to reside in: AK, CA, CO, CT, DE, DC, HI, LA, ME, MA, MD, MN, MT, ND, NJ, NY, OK, OR, PA, PR, RI, SD, VT, WA or WI.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Six (6) years of progressive system administration or platform engineering experience, including highly virtualized environments and Microsoft cloud services.
Minimum Knowledge and Skill Requirements
• Ability to define infrastructure problems, analyze system data, and draw sound conclusions from logs, monitoring tools, and documented evidence.
• Ability to interpret technical documentation, implementation guides, diagrams, and operational procedures.
• Strong working knowledge of Windows Server, directory services, group policy, permissions, authentication, and system configuration.
• Experience designing, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Azure, Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and related identity, compute, storage, and networking services.
• Knowledge of hybrid infrastructure, including on-premises systems, cloud services, identity platforms, and network connectivity.
• Familiarity with backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and business continuity practices.
• Understanding of IP networking concepts, including firewalls, routers, switches, VPNs, ACLs, DNS, DHCP, routing, VLANs, and troubleshooting.
• Ability to evaluate trade-offs among reliability, performance, security, scalability, and cost using engineering judgment and system data.
• Ability to communicate clearly with internal customers, technical teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.

WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES AND TASKS:
1. Troubleshoot and resolve platform issues by defining problems, analyzing system data, and restoring reliable service across servers, identity platforms, Microsoft 365, Azure, virtualization, storage, networking, and related systems.
2. Maintain documentation and change records for support, implementation, troubleshooting, and configuration activities to ensure accurate records, repeatable procedures, and reviewable evidence of system changes.
3. Engineer and support Microsoft 365 services including SharePoint, Teams, Exchange Online, OneDrive, workflows, permissions, and integrations to improve collaboration and business process reliability.
4. Design and maintain enterprise infrastructure including Windows servers, virtual machines, cloud resources, storage, directories, and related platform services to support secure, reliable, and maintainable operations.
5. Engineer and support identity and access management services including Active Directory, Entra ID, group policy, authentication, conditional access dependencies, and related directory services to maintain secure and reliable access.
6. Develop platform standards, baselines, and procedures to improve consistency, maintainability, scalability, and repeatability across infrastructure and cloud services.
7. Implement automation and standardized practices to reduce manual effort, improve efficiency, and strengthen the scalability of platform operations.
8. Monitor platform health and service performance using logs, alerts, backup results, telemetry, and other system data to identify gaps and improve reliability, performance, and resilience.
9. Coordinate service recovery and vendor escalations for hardware, software, system, and service failures to restore service, communicate status, document root cause, and prevent recurring issues.
10. Optimize performance, capacity, lifecycle planning, and virtualization resources to improve reliability, security, scalability, and operational effectiveness.
11. Coordinate maintenance, troubleshooting, projects, and planned changes with system owners, application owners, business areas, vendors, and technical teams to align work and deliver effective platform outcomes.
12. Lead or contribute to infrastructure projects and platform improvements involving on-premises systems, Azure, Microsoft 365, Entra ID, networking, storage, virtualization, backup, disaster recovery, security controls, monitoring, and emerging technologies to improve platform capability and service effectiveness.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
