Job description

Why join Seegrid?

Seegrid is the leading provider of Physical AI for material handling. Our solution includes autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), fleet management software, actionable analytics, and best-in-class services and support. Our technology is proven. Our AMRs have safely driven millions of autonomous miles in real-world production facilities. We are seeking energetic, bright, and friendly people to help achieve our vision: to fortify global supply chains and create profitable economies with safe, seamless, and smart mobile robotics solutions.

The Role:

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead the technical direction and development of our autonomous industrial robotic fleet management software. This is a high-impact technical leadership role requiring deep experience in distributed backend systems and modern web-based operational UIs. The role will be responsible for refactoring and writing new code that sets a high bar for code quality including testability, stability, performance, security, and interoperability.

This senior role balances high-impact technical execution with project leadership and team mentorship, combining a passion for solving complex problems with beautiful code while guiding projects and elevating junior engineers. Ideally based out of Pittsburgh, PA, with less than 15%+ travel if remote.

Responsibilities:

Implement Fleet Management Features

  • Design and evolve distributed fleet orchestration services for task allocation and robot state management
  • Improve high-availability systems for dispatch, path planning integration, traffic management integration, and consequences of robot success and error states
  • Implement resilient messaging patterns (pub/sub, event streaming, eventual consistency)
  • Dive into large code bases to surgically improve or extract functionality
  • Integrate with robot APIs (REST, gRPC, MQTT, VDA5050, proprietary APIs)

Build Real-Time & Data-Centric Systems

  • Improve data ingestion pipelines for high-frequency robot and infrastructure data for the purpose of observability and the execution of business logic
  • Implement event-driven systems using message brokers (e.g. Rabbit MQ, Mosquitto, Kafka)
  • Build scalable APIs for mission control, fleet analytics, integrations, and diagnostics
  • Optimize data models for a variety of competing requirements

Drive Technical Leadership

  • Accelerate the technical growth of the team through hands-on mentorship and leading by example
  • Raise the bar of system architecture, software quality, and software development life cycle
  • Minimize custom code by bringing best-in-class tooling and framework experience to bear at the right place and the right time

Required Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • Highly autonomous technical driver. Senior-level intuition is required to confidently execute with minimal oversight. When you see a problem you bias towards action rather than discussion
  • Proven experience mentoring junior engineers
  • Proven broad experience designing, implementing, deploying, and debugging distributed systems at scale
  • Excellent software engineering skills in a JVM based language. Kotlin is preferred and language breadth is valued
  • Proficiency developing and deploying in both MacOS and Linux environments
  • Proven experience with event-driven architectures and message brokers
  • Deep understanding of REST, Websockets, gRPC, and AMQP APIs
  • Proven experience with and strong technical understanding of PostgreSQL
  • Proven experience deploying, configuring, and debugging both OS-level virtualization (Docker/containers) and hardware-level virtualization (VMs, bare-metal hypervisors)

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in a variety of business domains. Experience in automated material handling for manufacturing and warehousing is a plus
  • Proven experience and deep technical understanding of common enterprise-grade JVM frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate
  • Familiar with modern web app frameworks (Vue, React, Angular, etc.)
  • Proven experience supporting legacy software systems
  • Experience with JIRA, TeamCity, and Artifactory
  • Experience with Clickhouse, Redis, Azure, and Snowflake

Seegrid has been recognized regionally and nationally as a Best-Place-to-Work. We'd love to have you join us!
