About the role

Uphold is looking for a Senior Agentic Engineer to help build the systems and pipelines that power our AI-native approach to software development. In this role, you'll work hands-on designing, building, and iterating on agentic development infrastructure - the orchestration layers, automation pipelines, and tooling that enable AI agents to participate meaningfully in our engineering workflows.

We're rebuilding how software ships at Uphold. You'll turn architecture into the production systems that multiply every engineer's output.

Your Impact

  • Design and build agentic development pipelines that take features from specification through to pull request with human oversight at every critical stage.
  • Create the orchestration infrastructure that enables AI agents to collaborate effectively with engineers across the development lifecycle.
  • Directly improve engineering velocity by shipping tooling that reduces cycle time from idea to production.
  • Establish patterns and best practices for agentic system design that scale across the organization.
  • Contribute to making Uphold one of the first fintech companies to operate with a truly AI-native engineering workflow.

What You'll Be Doing Primarily

  • Build and maintain agentic orchestration systems that coordinate AI agents across code generation, testing, review, and deployment stages.
  • Design and implement the feedback loops, guardrails, and quality gates that ensure agentic output meets production standards in a regulated fintech environment.
  • Develop internal tooling and developer experience improvements that make agentic workflows accessible and reliable for the wider engineering team.
  • Iterate rapidly on pipeline architecture - running experiments, measuring impact on engineering throughput, and doubling down on what works.
  • Collaborate closely with the Agentic Engineering Lead to translate strategic AI adoption goals into concrete, shippable systems.
  • Evaluate and integrate AI models, coding assistants, and agent frameworks, providing hands-on assessments of what works for our specific stack and domain.
  • Instrument and monitor agentic systems to ensure reliability, security, and compliance - particularly important given Uphold's regulatory obligations.

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience with strong fundamentals in system design and architecture.
  • Hands-on production experience with agentic AI frameworks and modern AI coding assistants integrated into your own daily workflow.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD pipelines, developer tooling, and infrastructure automation.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous, rapidly evolving problem spaces where you're defining the approach as you go.
  • Strong communication skills - able to document systems clearly and collaborate effectively across teams.
  • A builder's mindset: you'd rather ship a working V1 and iterate than debate the perfect architecture in a doc.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience in fintech, crypto, or regulated industries.
  • Background in developer experience, internal tools, or platform engineering.
  • Contributions to open-source projects related to AI/ML tooling or developer infrastructure.

What We Offer

  • Innovation and Impact:Contribute to pioneering projects in a dynamic and challenging environment.
  • Competitive Compensation:Performance bonuses, and comprehensive benefits on top of a competitive salary.
  • Strong Company Culture:Thrive in a supportive, collegiate environment with values of integrity, teamwork, accountability, and excellence.
  • Global Collaboration:Participate in regular updates, strategy sessions, and networking opportunities across the group.
  • Development Opportunities:Access training and mentorship programs.
  • Flexibility:Enjoy options to work from home, other locations, or adjust your hours.
  • Inclusive Environment:Value and respect diverse perspectives.

Our Benefits

  • Annual bonus program based on individual, team and company performance.
  • Generous PTO, healthcare, and employee assistance programs.
  • Engaging events and celebrations.
  • Well-stocked office kitchen with a foodie culture.
