Remote Unit Testing information

What is the difference between Remote Unit Testing vs Remote QA Tester?

AspectRemote Unit TestingRemote QA Tester
Primary FocusTesting individual code units for correctnessEnd-to-end testing of entire software applications
Skills & CertificationsProgramming, testing frameworks, coding skillsTesting methodologies, scripting, bug tracking
Work EnvironmentDevelopment teams, coding environmentsTesting labs, collaborative testing environments
Industry UsageSoftware development, DevOpsQuality assurance, software release cycles

Remote Unit Testing involves developers testing individual code components, focusing on code correctness. Remote QA Testers perform comprehensive testing of entire applications to ensure quality before release. While both roles require testing skills, Remote Unit Testing emphasizes coding and technical expertise, whereas Remote QA Testing centers on overall product quality and user experience.

What is remote unit testing?

Remote unit testing refers to the process of writing and executing unit tests for software code from a remote location, rather than on-site at a company's office. This allows developers or quality assurance engineers to verify that individual components of a program function correctly, regardless of their physical location. Typically, remote unit testing uses collaboration tools, code repositories, and testing frameworks to ensure code quality and reliability. It is especially useful for distributed teams or organizations that support remote work.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Unit Testing Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Unit Testing Engineer, you need a solid understanding of software development principles, proficiency in writing automated tests, and experience with relevant programming languages. Familiarity with testing frameworks (such as JUnit, NUnit, or PyTest), CI/CD tools, and version control systems like Git is typically required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective remote communication skills help you excel in a distributed team environment. These skills ensure software reliability, minimize bugs, and support seamless collaboration in remote development settings.

How does a remote unit testing engineer typically collaborate with development teams and ensure effective communication?

As a remote unit testing engineer, collaboration with development teams often relies on clear, consistent communication through project management tools, video calls, and chat platforms. You’ll participate in regular stand-ups or sprint meetings to discuss test coverage, share feedback, and address issues promptly. Maintaining detailed documentation of test cases and results is essential for transparency and alignment with developers. Proactive communication and responsiveness are key to ensuring that testing aligns with project timelines and quality standards, despite working remotely.

Job description

About The Role

The Senior Full Stack Software Engineer will be a foundational contributor within our Core Trade engineering team. You'll be part of a dynamic, high-performing team building an ultra-high throughput, low-latency trading system and the tools required to run it, all aimed at democratizing investing globally.

We are looking for an engineer who prioritizes clarity, reusability, and reducing complexity in their approach to application architecture and feature building. You'll be leading the charge with modern technologies and agentic engineering workflows to scale our mission-critical trading stack for hyper-scale growth. You'll be highly autonomous and hands-on, working cross-functionally across engineering teams and collaborating directly with the business, Quants, stakeholders, and Trade Desk users.

As a Senior Engineer, you should bring clear communication, collaborative problem-solving, and a genuine drive to build resilient, high-performance systems for best-in-class trade desk applications. You will design and champion human-in-the-loop development practices to maximize team velocity without sacrificing our uncompromising standard for highly available, scalable architecture.

What You'll Do
  • Technical Leadership & Delivery: Own the technical design, architecture, and delivery of complex React/TypeScript front-end and Java back-end features from inception to production.
  • Architectural Excellence: Drive architectural best practices, ensuring solutions are highly secure, scalable, and resilient.
  • Mentorship: Act as a force multiplier for the team. Mentor mid-level and junior engineers, lead code reviews, and elevate the overall technical bar of the organization.
  • AI-Driven Velocity: Pioneer our use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., Copilot, ChatGPT) to accelerate coding, testing, and documentation, setting the standard for secure and effective AI integration in our workflows.
  • Human-in-the-Loop: Architect workflows that seamlessly blend automated decision-making and high-throughput data processing with human-in-the-loop validation for our trade desks and operational teams.
  • Drive Strategy: Partner horizontally with key stakeholders including Trade Desks, Quants, Product Managers, and other engineering leads to translate complex business goals into robust technical execution.
  • Goal Setting: Define bold, measurable technical goals for your projects and collaborate with leadership to hit broader organizational targets.
You Bring
  • 5+ years of software development experience with deep expertise in TypeScript, modern JavaScript (ES8+), Java (60% backend / 40% frontend split), React, WebSockets, or similar technologies for complex, real-time data streaming, and Browser API and standards.
  • System Design and Architecture at Scale: Proven track record of designing, building, and owning highly available architectures at scale.
  • AI Tooling: Strong familiarity with modern AI coding assistants and a demonstrated ability to leverage them to improve developer productivity safely.
  • Testing Champion: Deep understanding of, and advocacy for, rigorous testing standards, including unit testing (React Testing Library) and E2E testing (Playwright, Cypress).
  • Communication: Exceptional verbal and technical writing skills. You must be able to distill complex architectural concepts and designs into clear, understandable language for both engineering peers and business stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: A detail and results-oriented mindset with elite analytical abilities and a bias toward action.
Location

This role is open to candidates in the following locations:
