What you'll do at Cascade:

Position Overview

As a Portfolio Underwriter, you are responsible for evaluating and assessing the acceptability of all loan documentation submitted by the Loan Processor, and effectively clearing conditions required for full loan approval and loan closing. You will work in a high volume, fast paced, team-oriented environment. Underwriters work daily with the Processing and Closing Departments to ensure that all loans and supporting documentation meet company and investor guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyzing borrower credit, income, assets, purchase contracts, appraisals, title reports, and other supporting documentation to determine loan eligibility in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Placing underwriting conditions and communicating underwriting decisions clearly and professionally with both internal and external contacts.
  • Reviewing and clearing or rejecting underwriting conditions within established departmental turnaround times (SLAs) while ensuring compliance with company policy and quality standards.
  • Collaborating closely with loan processors and closing teams to ensure high quality and efficient workflow, ensuring timely loan closings and a high level of customer service and satisfaction.
  • Maintainingaccuracy, consistency, and attention to detail while managing a high-volume pipeline and meeting production goals.
  • Identifying potential fraud risks or documentation discrepancies and escalating concerns if needed.
  • Keeping your knowledge base current on underwriting guidelines for all loan programs and products while verifying state and federal compliance with TRID, ATR, Non-QM, and QM lending.

What you will need to join Cascade

  • A minimum of 3 recent years' experience in underwriting or processing residential mortgage applications
  • Ability to adjust easily to work situations and job responsibilities based on business needs including working overtime as necessary
  • Strong ability to review and evaluate loan documentation for accuracy, completeness, and compliance
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven team environment while effectively multitasking and managing a high-volume pipeline
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills with a strong problem-solving ability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized background in construction lending.
  • Encompass LOS experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the Manufactured Housing Industry
